Gigio's On "Chicago's Best"

Chicago's Best just did a show on local thin-crust pizzas, and visited Gigio's (4643 Broadway) in its segment about New York slices.  See it above (the Gigio's bit starts around the 5:25 mark) or visit the show page at http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicagos-best/watch-the-show.html.

  1. Alright, been there a couple of times, thought it was bland. This episode and "The Godfather" sold me. Heading to Gigio's for dinner....

Personally, Pizzeria Aroma at Berwyn and Broadway is the best local pizza. Slices are HUGE! I love to eat, I eat a lot.... 1 slice at Aroma kills me, its awesome in the truest sense of the word. The menu and restaurant itself are perfect, great setting.

  2. I really like Gigio's. I'm glad they're highlighted on Chicago's Best. Anytime my NJ family comes into town we get a pie from Gigio's, and every time they're surprised to have something that tastes so close to NYC style pizza.

But beware current and future patrons: I've learned when calling in an order to make sure the person taking it repeats it back to you accurately before hanging up. More often than not they'll screw it up.

  4. I like Gigios alot! But there is another place on Clarendon that I tried recently, Bo Jono's. It is great also!

  5. *stomach rumble*

Just had some Gigio's and the digestion is not going so well.
Bland, blah, boring sauce, giant oil-lava lake in the middle of the pie. I'm gonna second UptownAction: Pizzeria Aroma on Berwyn is the way to go. A slice lasts me 2-meals! And is DELICIOUS!

  6. yep, the take-and-bake pizzas from Aldi loaded with fresh vegetables are a thousand times better than my Gigio's dinner experience. Cheese reminded me of the cheap cheese they use in school cafeterias, it also did not melt well; was hard and chewy not stringy and gooey, hardly a trace of sauce, it took 6 napkins to get all the grease off before I could start eating, crust was average..

    I vote thumbs down

  7. Gigio's has been the most delicious "coming home from the bar at 2 am" pizza ever.

When sober, however, I will say that I love the just outside of Uptown (Berwyn and Broadway) Pizzeria Aroma.

  8. I tried Gigio's last night after watching Chicago's best. I was disappointed. The pizza was OK, but not great.

Michael's on Broadway and Belle Plaine is the best pizza in the city.

  9. Agree with David, Michael's is the best pizza in town..... I've tried every pizza place in the area and there's just something about the sauce at Michael's, phenomenal.

  11. I am a huge fan of Apart Pizza--if you like Roman style, super thin, and CHEAP.

  12. For NYC style pizza, I go to Pizzaco Italian Eatery on Ashland. I know, it's not in Uptown, but good lord it's good pie!

  13. Michaels pizza? Wow. That whole menu makes me sad.

It is pretty far south these days, but Pie Hole in Lakeview is my top spot. Everything else I have tried in Uptown isn't very impressive.

  14. I order from Gigio's once every couple of months. Usually for the office. Most of the people I know enjoy their pizzas as long as they are fresh! It would be great if they can cut down on salt and oils. The price is pretty fair for what you get.

  15. i'm surprised no one has mentioned the best Chicago-Style Thin Crust -- Uptown Pizza & BBQ!

Cut Chicago style, their Uptown Deluxe has always been great.

(n2design -- they don't seem to be the most hi-tech at Gigio's...a throwback to the old style of business)
