Windows At Green Mill & Uptown Lounge Smashed

A reader sends in this upsetting news:
"The large glass window at Green Mill and the glass front door at Uptown Lounge are both shattered and police were on the scene this morning around 7:30 a.m. I am not sure if these were robberies or just a case of someone breaking the glass? The glass was still all over the sidewalk when I went past, so it appears to have happened fairly recently."

  1. You can also add Magnolia Cafe to the list. Their glass entrance door was smashed Monday night/Tuesday morning.

  2. Too bad as these size windows cost alot to replace. I heard on the Northwest side two window services where paying guys to break out windows to create business. Seems to me alot of windows been being broken out lately and lets hope this is not the case here too.

  3. Seems quite unusual that those large windows of popular businesses on popular, busy streets can be smashed without a witnesses calling it in. I'm assuming there's a camera somewhere that caught the incidents.

  4. On Lincoln Avenue about five years ago some kids were riding around in a car with a slingshot breaking big windows.

In fact, I was sitting in a bar at Lincoln/Roscoe/Paulina when there was a very, very loud crack against the window, but it did not break. Very hard to stop, even on a busy street.

  5. There's been a string of smash-and-grabs of businesses in the Uptown area lately. His moto is smash the window with a brick, slam the cash register on the floor and take the money. He does it between the hours of 1am-5am-ish. It takes him 2-5 mins for each hit. The police have an idea of who it is. It's a matter of catching him red-handed. He was arrested last year for doing the same thing in the Uptown/Andersonville/Ravenswood area. He just got released (Thank you court system!). In the meantime, businesses should prop open their cash register drawers at night so as to let this douchebag know there ain't no money for him. Citizens, as always, call the police if you notice something suspicious at all times of the day.

  6. We heard from a Crew employee that the neighboring Green Mill's window was smashed by an angry customer that was kicked out of the club. No word on what happened at Uptown Lounge.
