Raise Your Hand Striving To Return TIF Funds To The Schools

We've run a blurb before on Raise Your Hand's fight to have TIF funds given back to schools, but it's worth a revisit.  A reader points out an article from Ald. Scott Waguespack's (Ward 32) latest newsletter giving a link to a petition to do so.

"Take a look at our schools in the neighborhoods and consider signing the petition below to address the funding gap in Chicago's Public Schools. Raise Your Hand is one of many groups now joining in the fight to stop wasteful TIFs in order to right the financial ship of the city. [...]  The City needs to see a comprehensive change in the way we treat TIFS and we can start by adding some simple reform measures which I have posted in past newsletters. Rampant spending, lack of oversight and loss of dollars cannot be allowed to continue.  Raise Your Hand is a growing coalition of Chicago public schools and organizations associated with or advocating for public education. These members collaborate to influence state and local officials to provide appropriate, equitable and sustained funding for public education."
