From State Rep. Greg Harris' Email Update:
"I am happy to report we have made some progress with one of the more tenacious public safety issues in the Uptown neighborhood: on the portion of Clifton between Wilson and Broadway. Neighbors, nearby businesses and Truman College were reporting numerous problems with public safety and ongoing nuisances in the area.
After a number of meetings between the Uptown Chamber, Uptown Chicago Commission, 23rd District police, Truman College, area residents, Cornerstone Shelter, building owners and others, some of the recurring issues seem to have been addressed including loitering on the public way on Clifton, and the removal of trash dumpsters from the public way. While we hope that these actions are the beginnings of more long-term solutions to problems in the area, we are also going to remain vigilant.
Special thanks to Catherine Denny of Uptown Recording, Sandy Ramsey from Cornerstone Ministries, Commander Kathy Boehmer of the 23rd District, James Cappleman from the Uptown Chicago Commission, and President Lynn Walker of Truman College for their work in crafting solutions.
Also, responding to requests from area neighbors about a gunfire incident and drug dealing in the vicinity of 4522 M. Malden, a CHA property, I contacted the CHA and they will be posting private security in the area. Please keep me informed of any developments."
UU Note: Not one mention of anyone from Ald. Shiller's office working towards solutions to any of these issues.
This is good news.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if 4522 N. Malden is a typo, but the shooting two weeks ago was at 4425.
There have been security parked on the corner of Magnolia and Sunnyside. They wear bulletproof vests. They told me it has been a lot quieter since they have been there.
The lack of response from our ward representative just reinforces the idea of this being time for a change.
Way to go Neighbors and Mr. Harris. I like that he singled out some of the organizations that do so much good work around the area that Helen has refused to work with. Never mind someone running for her job and has been WAY more visible in the ward working on problems the past four years then she has. It is amazing James has a full time job and does not get paid to work on the problems around the 46th and still meets with more people in the open then Helen. Helen you get paid very well, and still can't return a phone call or call meetings to discuss issues with anyone who disagrees with you. Well there was that time last year you when you were seen running away from Truman College, I think that was the last time I saw you with my own eyes.
ReplyDeleteWe cannnot hold our breath waiting for Shiller to get our streets safe and sound. I am happy that others are taking needed action by having security guards placed in key locations on their property. I am sure these guards will have a very positive effect in the fight against crime where they have been placed.
ReplyDeleteBig T is back!
ReplyDeleteThank you Greg Harris for doing our Alderman's job!
ReplyDeleteIt is nicer at that corner, though it's now shifted underneath the "L". Still, a big improvement.
Now we just have to fix the loiterers at Magnolia and Wilson.
The problem will not be solved until CHA installs interior and exterior security cameras.
ReplyDelete,,no, the problem will not be solved until Shiller/Nowatney are no longer in office
