Hot Time In The Old Town Today

Check out this graphic from the Tribune.   Please be sure to take care of yourself, and watch out for anyone who might be sensitive to the heat:  pets, the elderly, the ill, anyone without air conditioning.   Make a call to 311 and request a well-being check if you have concerns.

  1. The best advice during hot spells like this is to drink plenty of water (not soda, and stay away from caffeine); wear lightly colored and loosely fitting clothing; and stay out of the heat/direct sunlight.

Heat stroke and heat exhaustion are deadly serious.

    early signs of exhaustion:

    - nausea
    - weakness/fatigue/dizziness
    - headaches
    - cramps/muscle aches

Get inside, get cool and drink water if you're experiencing any of those.

Untreated, those symptoms can lead to others (and lead to them, quickly):

    - lack of perspiration (sweat)
    - odd behavior: confusion, agitation

These are symptoms of heat stroke.

If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of heat stroke, get them to a cooler climate, replenish electolytes (gatorade) and call 911, asap.

Heat exhaustion can ruin your day.

Heat stroke can and probably will kill you.

    Just a little friendly advice.

    Stay safe folks.
