Many years ago, didn't they pass a city ordinance that banned bikes and skateboards on the side walk? If I'm not mistaken, that was done to protect seniors, as well.
And unless things have changed, and I doubt they have, walking along the lakefront is still a dangerous place for anyone with limited mobility, and small children. Some of the bikers who speed along the bike-path, have very little regard for other people's safety.
last summer, when I was vacationing in Chicago - I often jogged along the lake. Several times, I had to warn unsuspecting parents of the perils of letting their children wander along that path.
One lady ignored my warning - until her daughter almost got run over!
