(CHICAGO, IL.) - "Out in the Park", a June 19 event at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, sponsored by Gay Chicago Magazine was originally called Gay Day at Great America. But this year the park’s corporate parent, Six Flags, asked that the celebration be rebranded.“In January 2010, Six Flags approached Gay Chicago Magazine with the request to change the name "Gay Day", and make it an official gay event, a strategy other Six Flags parks across the country have adopted,” according to Gay Chicago Magazine publisher Craig Gernhardt.
“The event day has switched from early June on a Monday to mid-June on a Saturday, allowing those who work, and those GLBT families who have kids in school in early June to attend,” Gernhardt added.
The cost for "Out in the Park" is $40.00. Better Existence with HIV (BEHIV) in Edgewater is this year’s benefactor. Five dollars from each ticket sold through Gay Chicago Magazine, 3115 North Broadway and Touche, 6412 N. Clark St., will help BEHIV both maintain and raise awareness for the services BEHIV offers the community. Tickets are also available at the Center on Halsted located in Lakeview, The Glenwood in Rogers Park, Velvet Rope in Oak Park and the Office Tap in Rockford.
Buses will be available again this year, with pick-up spots at the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St., and Touche Bar at 6412 North Clark Street. The buses will leave at 10:00 a.m. from the two locations and return from Great America at 7:30 p.m. The cost of the bus ride is $15 round trip. A limited number of bus tickets will be available departing from Uptown on Montrose Avenue, 1 block West of Broadway. Buses will depart at 3pm and also at 6pm. All buses will leave the park at 1am and return to Uptown. Bus tickets are extremely limited. Visit gaysixflagschicago.com
