I just saw a small motorcade traveling south down Marine Drive from Foster. First was an armored SWAT van with the doors open and prominently flying an American flag off the back. Then a few CPD motorcycle units, then a large motor coach type bus that said Badger's Coaches, then several Cook Country Sheriff's cars. All of them flew down the street with their lights on and hit the sirens at intersections.
We've heard a rumor that the Stanley Cup will be making an appearance at Wrigley Field tonight, but that's the only VIP type thing we've heard. Would love to know if anyone has any further information on this.
Update: The Tribune says, "Chicago area to host 5 days of emergency drills. ... Residents can expect to see emergency responders looking and acting as if this was a real homeland security/domestic response mission."
They are drilling for emergencies. Homeland Security drills untill Thursday. Started today.

I saw them in Lincoln Park by the Zoo. It looked to be some sort of bike-athon with 50ish bicyclists, but with a huge overkill of cops and support vehicles.

ReplyDeleteIF THIS WERE PART OF THAT DRILL, THAN WHY WERE THERE ABOUT 50 BIKE RIDERS? WHAT WOULD THEY DO IN THE EVENT OF A THREAT? WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE BUS? HOW ABOUT THE UHAUL TRUCK? THEY CAME DOWN SHERIDAN IN EDGEWATER. NOT SURE WHAT THE PURPOSE OF A "PARADE" IS FOR A HOMELAND SECURITY DRILL..
ReplyDeleteI've been involved in a few military disaster response drills in the past - and chances are that the bike riders are going to portray the injured during the exercise.
ReplyDeleteThe UHauls are probably transporting the materials (bandages, fake blood, et al) that obv wouldn't be carried on the response vehicles.
WELL THAN, MAYBE THAT IS WHAT IT WAS. WONDER WHERE THEY ENDED UP TO ACTUALLY CONDUCT THE DRILL?
ReplyDeletePolice motorcycles started this parade. Followed by squad cars. A few civilian cars and the cyclists. The lead bike was on a low bike and I think missing a leg. A banner referencing Wounded Warriors followed. Endcapped by the armored vehicle and more additional police motorcycles.
