Independence Day Info From 20th District CAPS Office

Note: The 20th District runs from Lawrence, north to Thorndale along with lakefront. Most of this information pertains only to that area. If we hear details regarding closures in the 23rd District (Fullerton to Lawrence), we'll pass them along.

Dear Residents of the 20th District -- Just wanted to pass this information out to you regarding the 4th of July Fireworks:

Fireworks will be between Foster Avenue and Lawrence

There will be NO PARKING along the east side of Marine Drive from Lawrence to Foster

NO PARKING at Margate Park Field House, as this will be the Command Post.
Limited Parking at Foster Avenue Parking Lot due to the Media, Cooling Buses, Emergency Medical Services.
No Parking at Skate Park, as this will be the secondary command post for Montrose

CTA Services will be limited east of Sheridan Road from Lawrence to Foster Avenue
CTA will have staging bases which will conduct a circuit from Foster Avenue to Montrose – at this time
They will make a decision as to how far west they will go. (possibly to Ashland /Clark)

RESIDENTS: PLEASE have some type of identification with your home address that will indicate that you have parking available in your building. On-street parking will be very limited.

EMPLOYEES of HOSPITALS, BUILDINGS, NURSING HOMES, ETC: PLEASE have your employee’s identification to show the TMAs or officers that you are going to work.

REMEMBER THIS IS A FAMILY EVENT AND PUBLIC SAFETY IS OUR PRIMARY CONCERN.

UU Note: If you want to see a spectacularly unhelpful blurb on how the fireworks will affect Uptown residents, click here. Thanks for all the specifics, Helen!

Update: Ald. Shiller's office sent out an email blast this afternoon: "Parking on the east side of Marine, from Montrose to Foster will be restricted ALL DAY on Sunday. Please be aware that, if necessary, Traffic Control Aides may block vehicles from heading east of Sheridan. Drivers heading home or to work east of Sheridan may have to show ID before being allowed through. Please plan for this accordingly."
