If You're Going To The Pride Parade This Weekend...

The 2009 Parade
... be sure to wave hi to Ald. Shiller!  If she's participating, that is.  A little bird told us she's not registered on the parade roster, but she may be joining up with someone else.

  1. Maybe she'll be joining Don Nowotny because most of us know they're cut from the same cloth anyway.

  2. I will be showing her I think she is #1 in my book.

  3. Last year it seemed liked the vocal boos were above average.

Good. She needs to go. She played the community far to long and the gay community is over her along with everyone else.

This election, seriously, the deciding factor will be a unified gay vote.... Work the gay vote. Shiller conned the gay community last election and Cappleman received about 1/2 of the gay vote.

  4. She was in City Hall today, so if she's not in the parade, she can't blame it on being in China.

I wouldn't be surprised if she does not show - I don't think she's forgiven today's gay community for outgrowing her. The gay community she championed more than 25 years ago was largely marginalized and powerless, and in desperate need of support from anyone in authority. To her credit, she was one of those people. Then.

But a quaarter century later, when today's gays and lesbians are pushing for increasingly middle class dreams--good jobs, nice homes, safe neighborhoods in which to raise their families--she's uninterested, and strangely resentful the community no longer consists of dependent outsiders.

Last summer, when thugs were beating people with bicycle locks on the north side, her "Pride and Justice" slogan was pretty insensitive to the community.

  6. I booed the crap out of her last year. It was pretty cathartic.

  7. She sprints from rare appearances at Truman College, but it's OK to ride in a parade car in the relatively serene territory south-of-Irving-Park? How about showing up at Sheridan and Leland, or Magnolia and Sunnyside sometime?

    Boooo!

  8. Just saw her walking north of the post office on Broadway so she is definitely in town.

  9. It's really sad when pretty much everybody knows she doesn't even live in the ward and you have to mention that she's "in town for the weekend".

In a previous life, I used to live in the 44th ward and would see Tom Tunney from time to time at various locations in the ward. It means a lot when you see the person you voted in office IN your neighborhood - maybe taking the train or bus to another place.

[rant] Do aldermen get free CTA passes? Can we use FOIA to find out how many times Shiller's used her pass in the last 12 months? I know at a minimum, if she's scanned her card at the Wilson station, it may register something like 'Wilson (Red)'. Of course, she could just give it to a contituent and we'd have no way to tell 100% that she's used it.

    Sigh. [/rant]

  12. I did not see Shiller, but I did see James Cappleman and Don Nowotny.

There was also a man named Jesse Wilson. His supporters were wearing "Elect Jesse Wilson for Alderman" shirts and his banner said 46th Ward/Uptown. Anyone know anything about him?

  13. i also saw the Jesse Wilson entry, as well as Nowotny and Cappleman. I cheered down with Shiller to Cappleman and he yelled back yeahhhhh woooo.
