Demera Shows Off Upgraded Patio

We're just giddy with the great weather and had a great utensil-free lunch at Demera.  Love the new patio and the flower boxes!

  1. Looks great, but I have never enjoyed dining outdoors.

  2. I live nearby and have never tried this place.

I walked in once and did not care for the smell, but all my friends swear by Demera and say it's awesome.

Can someone recommend a few beginner dishes for someone who is new to Ethopian food?

  3. Stash - I love the Kifta (either the "Special Kifta" or the "Special Demera Kifta", and I order it raw, though maybe rare or medium rare would be a better starting point). And I agree with your friends that Demera is excellent. Problem is, I can't think of anything on the menu that qualifies as "beginner." With Ethiopian food, I went 2 or 3 times before I really started to enjoy it. It's just one of those things where you have to dive in, enjoy the fact that it is very different from any other cuisine you've had, and acquire a taste. That was my experience, anyway.

  4. On another "exciting patio" note... it looks like Chava Cafe and Blue Ocean at Leland & Clark are getting new patio spaces to coincide with the lovely (but loud) streetscaping occurring between Ainslie & Montrose.

  5. That looks really good. I love seeing how this intersection has improved so much over the past 5-6 years. I lived in Uptown in 2001-2002, and at that time it was still very rough.
