Save the dates (Friday to Sunday, July 16-18, 2010)! We're excited to announce our first summer street festival on Broadway, between Leland & Lawrence - Professional BBQ ribs chefs will compete, while us lucky festival goers will get to eat! The event also includes live music, arts, crafts and other vendors, kids activities and more. Hosted by Business Partners-The Chamber for Uptown.
Lots of volunteers are needed for gates, beer tents and the chamber booth. View the volunteer shifts available by visiting this link. Then send an email with your preferred date/time/location. Your support will help us make this event a great success!
I am not trying to be negative or anything with this comment but I was wondering if anyone could explain why we are having a RibFest? I can't think of any restaurant here (or in the immediate area) that is known for its ribs. On the other hand, we are known as a destination for Jazz, bands, Asian and African cuisine. Again, I am not trying to be negative but oftentimes events such as these are generated by some sort of strong connection to the area in which they will be held.
ReplyDeleteThe RibFest doesn't seem to afford this community any logical positive associations that would last after the event. And I do think that kind of thing is desperately needed. I am sure I am not the only one who spends a lot of time being critical within Uptown but defending it to closed-minded people when I am outside of it! This is a wonderful community that deserves to be celebrated for what it is!
So with all that being said, could someone please explain to me why RIbFest? Where did the idea come from? Since a lot of time and effort will come from Business Partners in sponsoring this event, why is this an important event for our community to have & to have this year?
... on top of that, there's already a ribfest on Damen/Irving. And, as far as I know, there isn't much in the way of reknown rib-joints in that area.
ReplyDeleteI agree w/ya Sassy - now that I think of it.
A musicfest, or jazzfest would be considerably more cool and reflective of the area.
Still, and I'm sure my opinion is shared: I'll take what I can get.
Of course, my main concern being that I hope this doesn't turn into a fisticuffsfest.
