Not The Tip Jar!

Darius of The Cupcake Gallery at 1321 Wilson writes in that the "shorties" in Uptown are getting into the game, too:

Hey, just wanted to let you know that crazy stuff is on the rise in Uptown. Today a group of kids ran in and took our tip jar. There were 4 kids and the one that ran in was in a red hoodie and couldn't have been any older than 12 or 13 years old. They got away with about 3 dollar bills and about 95 cents in change... but, still - it's the principle.

  1. I'm with ya Darius. Today in front of my building I saw somebody blatantly toss a can on the sidewalk. I opened the window and yelled at him to "pick that godd@#m can up!" and low and behold, he did. Now, it's only a can, but it's also the principal.

  2. If we all yelled out the window and told them to pick it up, this would be a much better and safer cummunity. Good for you!

  3. I was looking for a reason to stop by Cupcake Gallery, and now I just found one. See you soon Darius!

  4. How could you do that to Darius?! He makes the best cupcakes! Now, if he would've said that someone ran in and stole all of his Double Chocolate cupcakes, I would not have been surprised (not that I'm advocating that)

  5. It's an OUTrage!

Darius makes some fine buttery cupcakes and I'll have to stop by on my way home from the lovely Wilson El Station.

Gotta support local businesses after they have been victimized.

  7. There is not much anyone can do.

Well ... except for the parents, maybe.

  8. I would contact administration at nearby Stockton School. Even if it wasn't their students, I would bet they could work with students through their classroom teachers to let them know that even small theft like this is still stealing. They do a lot of great things at that school and they would not want their students acting like this.

  9. I, too, had a situation similar to this happen where I work in Uptown. Four black youths, no more than 12 or 13 years old, stopped in and gave a ration of crap. As I started to throw them out one of them grabbed some items and ran out laughing. The shortest and fattest of the bunch attempted to threaten me. Apparently they have no parents who care about them.
