46th Or 48th?

There's been a little confusion lately about the borders of the 46th and 48th Wards as they run along Lawrence. So here's a little guide:  The 46th Ward is light blue, the 48th Ward is green/khaki.  Just to be clear, Lawrence House is in the 46th Ward.  The RibFest will be held in the 48th Ward.

  1. You can thank the Democratic Party leaders for this confusion. In the last redistricting the gerrymandered the border lines between the 46th and 48th Wards to make sure Mary Ann held control over the historic Uptown Theatre and to make sure Helen's 46Th Ward took over more of the 48th Ward's low income and politically inactive voters.

  2. Rule of thumb, in case you leave this handy map at home: if it's a commercial area thathas undergone even a modicum of positive redevelopment, it's probably in the 48th Ward. Except, of course, for Wilson Yard, but I think we can all remember that one.

  3. Now that's some crafty gerrymandering.

  4. Yep, they even gave Helen two cemeteries of dead voters.

  5. Why is it that the 48th Ward looks cleaner and that they have more exciting things to do?
