CAPS Meeting Tonight

A reminder that CAPS for Beat 2311 is being held tonight at Truman College, in the cafeteria, at 7pm.  This is the beat where a woman with her baby was shot in the leg last week while waiting for a bus, and where this week, many were woken by gunshots in the Lawrence/Magnolia/Malden area.  Come talk to the cops and neighbors about your concerns and see what can be done by working together.

  2. as expected, there was a lot of discussion about the shooting last week. There was discussion about gang mediation through CeaseFire - evidently there isn't funding for this in the Uptown area at the moment, but Mr. Cappleman, Cmdr. Boehmer and Senator Steans are attempting to get the funding.

Crime stats- arrests for violent crimes are up a bit. That doesn't mean violent crime is up necessarily, it may just show that the increased police presence is resulting in more arrests.

Previously discussed problems on Clifton were touched on. They are working on getting the dumpsters moved off the public way, and hoping that they can get the people that are congregating there that aren't doing anything wrong to help police those that are.

  3. The two alleged offenders in the Wilson/Broadway incident have their first hearing in a felony courtroom tomorrow morning at Belmont and Western.

The case of the 85 yr old who was robbed in the elevator of of his building at Wilson and Sheridan is also having a hearing in court in Skokie tomorrow morning. A few neighbors of the victim plan on attending the case.

The attack on the 85 yr old victim was captured on the buildings surveillance monitor and was released to local news channels.

This is the exact argument that should be used when Shiller tries to claim (like last summer) that crime is down. Last summer we had less of a police presence, so there were fewer arrests and lower statistics. Lower statistics are not proof of a lower crime rate.
