A resident sends in the following heads up for those parking on Irving between the cemeteries:
"This has been discussed before but it looks like it has been a problem as of late. On Irving Park Road, west of the L along the cemeteries is what appears to be bountiful parking. However, thieves and scumbags go through here and have a field day with smash and grabs. Broken glass everywhere, and vandalized cars. I had some neighbors broken into recently and my friend too. They didn’t have anything visible to thieves either. They smashed the windows in and went through the glove box. Someone had a satellite radio from a glove box. I won’t be parking there but others might not realize it.
I've written to Shiller before and its been brought up in CAPS meetings but apparently its largely ignored and is a dangerous area."
That stretch needs better lighting.
ReplyDeleteWhat the stretch needs is some po po hiding out in vans ready to pounce on these idiots.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the CPD does relatively little of those type of operations.
It's a failure of leadership in the department and in the Mayor's office.
Los Angeles had Bill Bratton as Chief. We get an unfrozen caveman Fed who knows less about local law enforcement than your average Police Explorer(Boy Scout type thing).
Wow. Another mayor bashing post from IP. What a shocker! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLight up that street and there will be less of a problem. I am sure the residents of the cemetery won't mind.
On a tangent, Anybody have a real, fact-based opinion on whether Alderman Shiller will run again?
Yo, your post earlier about Ms. Davis cracked me up BTW.
More lighting wont do anything. That stretch of road is so desolate that pretty much anything could happen unnoticed. Graceland had to nearly double the height of the security fence because people were still trespassing!
ReplyDeletebetter lighting and security cameras. not only can cars be easily vandalized but what if someone walks thru there? mugging? murder? car jacking? it could all happen and nobody is around. its a safety risk and they need police patrols and cameras in addition to lighting. better lighting alone would just allow thieves to see better. its a very dangerous area and people don't realize it. they could also post 'park at your own risk' signs on poles or walls but i doubt anybody cares or will take initiative to improve this unsafe cooridor.
ReplyDeleteIt's a combo of the red line tracks providing a perfect blanket of noise to shatter glass under, and the fact that there are no residences in view to be able to see or hear it.
ReplyDeleteIt's so isolated that it's almost a no-brainer for criminals who want to go through cars, whether there is an obvious incentive or not. I walk that stretch all the time and count the shattered windows as I walk by. Ever wonder why there's glass all over the sidewalk, every night, all year long?
If you are parking and leaving your car over night, it's a lot safer to leave by apartments and where people are, as a deterrent.
