Plotting On Racine

Now that Racine is set to become a one-way street northbound from Wilson as part of the Truman Parking Garage project, we wonder how that will change the area just in front of Borders. We spotted lots of white dots plotting out a large grid as well as other survey markings in front of Borders, so something is in the works. Could the pedestrian space in front of Borders extend all the way to the island street divider and allow Borders to possibly reopen Seattle Best's al fresco area? Will a nice planter or fountain fill this space? Inquiring minds want to know.

  1. Cafe seating and a fountain there would be delightful and something which everyone would be able to enjoy. I really hope this becomes a reality!

  2. I agree, an improved island would be nice. But, I think it’s unlikely North bound traffic will be allowed to enter Broadway's South bound lanes in front of Riviera theater. That would be dangerous. The existing bend by Borders is much safer. As alternative, the existing island can be connected to sidewalk in front of the pancake house and adding a few trees will surely improve appearance.

  3. My guess would be that the curve would actually be shortened to make two turning lanes in opposite directions.

  4. I too am confused about how they're gonna pull off whatever they decide upon, but there is a lot of plain concrete there right now. While it was fine walking up there the few times I've been, it certainly isn't the most pedestrian friendly.
