More Demolition At Lawrence & Clark

We've noticed a recent change in the long-dormant empty lot at the NW corner of Lawrence & Clark: It got bigger. The building directly north of it, home to the dog boarding service and the Gast Monuments "ghost sign," has been demolished, leaving a much larger footprint. There's also construction equipment and a trailer/office on the site. We hope the recent activity means something is in store for this corner, which has been filled with weeds and nothing else for far too long.

  1. Despite this being in the outer most stretch of the sometimes cursed 46th Ward (I think?), I'm sure whatever goes up here will be fine.

  2. Yes, that is the building that housed my family from 1962 thru 1970. Now it’s gone, JJ will no longer be able to throw rocks onto the CTA buses nor will Ed and I be able to race up those back stairs. The building was dilapidated back in the 60s and was such a dump. BUT it was home to me and my family filled with many memories that I will never forget

  3. Empty lot, huge condo development. Lets put section 8 housing there!

It seems the goal is to put 1 section 8 apt for every condo in the ward.

  4. I hope they build something appealing to other investors. A nice irish pub, or perhaps a decent restaurant would go great there. If investors see that people have enough confidence in Uptown to start building...well...hopefully that confidence spreads like wildfire. Is it a fool's hope to think that the 46th ward can have a thriving commercial district? I think a lot of people hope that with commercialization...comes cleaner streets, and less crime.

  5. I would bet it's going to be single level building.

A pharmacy, fast food business or a bank.

Too many condos on the market now and not enough buyers.

  6. Being a "corner building" in a mixed-use neighborhood, it will probably end up with commercial spaces on the main floor and residences and/or offices upstairs. Like so many other half-finished projects here and elsewhere in the city.

Personally, I'd like to see an "adult" music club/sports bar along the lines of "Green Mill West."

  7. i think something similar to the green mill would attract a decent amount of positive attention.

  8. I think right now there are too many current establishments that can't make.

I know of several bars/restaurants and clubs for sale near or in Uptown.

They might be putting a gas station on that corner too.

  9. I give a 10 to 1 bet its a Walgreens or a CVS.

  10. I doubt it would be a Walgreen's since there's already a store at Wilson & Clark and the chain recently announced a pullback of expansion. There's also a CVS at Lawrence & Damen so that might not work too. Also there are two gas stations a block away and I doubt that the neighbors would want another one.
