Where in Uptown can you find this plaque, placed in 1937, which reads:
"FIRST TELEPHONE SYSTEM. On this site stood John M. Hills' residence, which boasted one of the three telephones of Lakeview's first telephone system. The others were in the Town Hall and Pause's Saloon."
Across the street from a restaurant named after a wonderful Duran Duran number?
ReplyDeleteI've seen it before, but simply don't recall...
ReplyDelete1464 W Leland! I just moved from that building in October. I always tried to find more information about the telephone system but couldn't...
ReplyDeleteWCE, you are correct and frighteningly fast!
ReplyDeleteTracy, thanks for the details.
I'd love to know where Pause's Saloon was.
Caring Neighbor. There is a Pause coffee shop at 1107 W. Berwyn Ave. Perhaps it once was a bar and the name was slightly changed?
