Uptown's CleanSlate Crews On "Chicago Tonight"

We read in SSA #34's latest mailing: "A segment featuring the Cleanslate crews that perform litter removal & hand sweeping of Uptown's commercial sidewalks is scheduled to be broadcast on WTTW Channel 11's nightly Chicago Tonight broadcast this evening between 7-8pm.

Filming of the segment took place in Uptown during last Friday's shift. Below is a link to the program's webpage. There should be a viewable segment posted in several days. Congratulations to The Cara Program and Cleanslate!" The show is repeated several times during the evening and the wee hours.

  1. only thing I don't like about Cleanslate is that they have to wear those uniforms. It seems like a badge of inferiority to me. IMHO

  3. Meg, I concur! I stopped a lady once when the program began . . . to ask her what the program did and she introduced herself and was very kind in telling me all about the agency. I hope they are proud of their uniforms and do not feel inferior. In this economy either of us could be wearing the badge. Kudos to them for doing the work that we, who are fortunate enough to have gainful careers, do not have time to do.

  4. It's a demanding gig. CleanSlate employees have to greet and speak to a certain number of people a day while they're doing their jobs and there's zero tolerance for lateness or unexcused absences. I doubt I could meet the demands. And yet 75% of the CleanSlate interns remain employed for at least a year. I am grateful for and admire them.

  7. A year or so ago, a bunch of Cleanslate folks pitched in with a bunch of neighbors on Argyle to replace the woodchips around all the trees from Broadway to Sheridan. They were great, and a good time was had by all. I can't imagine what Argyle would look like without them. Many thanks to everyone at Cleanslate!
