Liquor Tax Increase Affects Local Bars

From RedEye: Other spots might dock their offerings in an attempt to recoup. "One option we are seriously considering is scaling back our options in alcohol and beer," says Steven Milford, co-owner of Wild Pug and Crew in Uptown, the latter of which stocks 68 kinds of beer. "With fewer options, we would go through more products quickly, earning us money back sooner."

  1. Why as Irish Pirate not commented on this?

Could someone get over to Pirates house for a wellness check? I am afraid this article may push him over the edge.

Don't do it Pirate! You have to much to live for!

  2. This administration promised not to raise taxes. Now they have throught the back-door approach on liquor, soda just to name a few. Our state taxes also tax these tax increases with even more sales taxes. I feel sorry for the small businesses that are fighting to stay alive and yet I heard echo`s of change is needed that someone said to get elected. As far as I am concerned change is for parking meters......

  3. I will totally support Crew and Wild Pug if they have to cut back on their choices of beer to save money. Think of all the places that don't have 1/4 of their choices, not Crew's yummy food and Wild Pug's dog party! Guys, anything you can do to mitigate the effects of this tax, go for it. We just want you in the 'hood. Hang in there, local businesses!

  5. Med if you read the over 1000 pages of the health bill it will allow a national sales tax which will be upward of 5% added into everything you buy to help pay for healthcare..Also early in the year more tax was added to liquor
& smokes by the feds also..... I really don`t do either but the ever growing tax form city, state and feds will surely nail the coffin shut on many small businesses.
