Green Roof Sprouts Plastic Bottles

A reader sends in the following pic and wonders:
"Not sure if you've ever noticed or anyone has mentioned this before...but have you seen the "green roof" on the CTA repair/maintenance building just west of the L tracks and north of Montrose? It's littered with plastic water bottles. What is this all about? How do they get there - CTA workers? I took a photo from the train."

  1. Wow, so I'm not the only one to notice. These things seem to be breeding up there. It's nuts. Definitely a concerted effort on sombody's part... similar to the beer cans on the roof of the police headquarters in the Wire.

  2. O you mean on that fake green roof. Since when did putting planters on roof be a real green roof?

  3. I wonder what kind of plants they really are growing. It would be a great place to grow things hieen from the law......

  4. I've noticed this for a long tome now too. The bottles all seem to be the same brand and size so my guess it that it's an individual using it as their personal trash can.

  5. I'm all over the idea of being more green but some are taking this green initiative and abusing it to make some report or some politician looking good. Can you say "fish farm"?

  6. It would seem to be the result of CTA workers using it as a trash dump. Not sure who else could have access. There's nothing to tag or graffiti up there.
