Red Light, Green Light

The Sun-Times has a story today about the city's many red-light cameras and how they affect driving. Above is the Uptown area detail of where the cameras are located, for reference purposes (click to enlarge). Fun fact: The camera at Belmont and LSD is the second most prolific in the city at catching red-light runners. Read the story here, and compare and contrast it with the number of local cameras that were around last July.

  1. Is it my imagination or does this map show cameras most everywhere except Uptown?

  2. The reason the one at Belmont and LSD catches so many "runners" is b/c traffic backs up and people block the intersection so when the light changes...bam. Guess that's another good reason to not block an intersection.

  3. Thanks for the information. You can now buy on line a clear spray that you can spray your plates with that make a reflection into the cameras so your number cannot be seen by the camera. Its applies clear and it really works. Its time we fight back and 2 can play the same game. They also sell camera detectors but I like the spray the best. I have never heard of a city as this thats already has thier hands in our pockets and now they want to squeeze out every penny we have.... Crook county is getting out of control amnd everyone should write and call the mayor and let him know what we all think of him..........

  4. Barry! What is the name of the product?! I want some!

These lights are revenue generating rip-offs.
And according to one study I've seen.....they actually increase traffic accidents at 'photo-enforced' intersections.

  5. Starck Mad here it is...........
www.phantomplate.com and they have various other products but the spray works perfect. Its time we all fight back as calling various city offices to protest all their Chicago holdup methods is a waste of time. This solves the problem...............

  6. Drivers running red lights is the major cause of hit-and-run accidents. We ask the Uptowners to obey the law, no dinking on the streets, but drivers are above the law? I ask; is that an adult response?

  7. Thanks barryfishing for commenting on EVERY UU post. I'm confused, however, that you want to lock up the semi-trailer driver and throw away the key and on your very next post you advocate obscuring plates and illegal detectors.

Your history is the City is noted, but your right wing renegade nonsense needs to be refined.

  8. Buenapk..You mention drivers are above the law. I don`t think so compaired to bikers. How many of them do you see stopping at red lights or running them and do they ever obey stop signs. How many accidents do they cause. They are suppose to follow the same traffic rules as a driver on our streets but do they?...
