On The "Target" Side Of Wilson Yard

As seen from the red line today.

  1. How surprising. Nothing but a hole. A "money pit" as it were.

  2. We're all from Missouri at this point.

  3. I see structural supports being built in the center of the "hole"...the side walls are in....

It seems to me it IS being built.

If it isn't...what are those walls and center supports doing in there?

  4. My guess would be that the parking garage for all those residential units (yet all these cars won't make Montrose traffic worse) is getting built.

  5. The entire site has below grade parking, I think. Yes, foundation walls are poured and one can see the rebar for concrete columns. Next you will see the form work about each column.

Notice the northeast corner, there is a round foundation wall, indicative of the infamous architectural renderings we are so used to seeing. You know the one showing a circular Target entrance? I'm certainly not convinced but have become an EXCITED cynical optimist.

  6. On a related note:
Does anyone know what the black covering over the top floors of the building across the street is for? It can be seen quite well in this photo. (Pardon me and my curiosity.)

  7. Part of what you see on the Target side of the cement pour from the beginning is just caissons to support the whole structure structure.

  8. Random - that is netting on the building across the street. It is to prevent pieces of the building from falling to the ground and injuring someone.

It is a pretty cool building. Too bad it is sitting there decaying.

  9. I believe the black cloth is designed to keep the deteriorating terra-cotta from falling off of the building and onto pedestrians below.

  10. Random, that is something I have pondered for quite a while. I agree with Magical, the covering is an aggressive form of protection for the masonry/terra cotta. However, other stranger possibilities could be: bird or insect deterrent or to keep people from throwing things out the windows. It is kind of strange tho...

  11. Just curious to note how quickly the residential units are going up versus the Target construction.
