Shots Fired At Montrose & Clarendon

We have gotten several reports of shots fired at Montrose & Clarendon earlier tonight. Add any new info in the comments, but here is one eyewitness account:

"4-5 shots fired at Montrose/Clarendon at 8:20pm tonight. Broke a pane of glass on the bus shelter. I was in a cab at the other side of the intersection, no idea where the shots came from."

  1. Katie I can't say it was a shooting but I walked pass the intersection around 8 on my way to Jewel. I did not hear or see anything. But something must of happened because when I was walking back I must have seen at least 6 cop cars speeding around looking for someone or something. I guess I know why now

  2. It's important to Helen to ensure that corner is properly "blighted" so it can become a TIF. She can then bring in more poverty to alleviate the blight.

  3. Katie is right nothing like this ever happens. I never read or hear anything about it so it must not happen!! Now go back into your bubble...

  4. I live in my condo on the 26th floor right by Clarendon & Montrose. I did not hear any shots but did see alot of police walking around the bus shelter and seen alot of them loking up and down the street and in clarendon park. Now that summer is near always late at night alot of punks hang out by the field house and specially by wilson and clarendon by the twin towers. Its not unusual to hear gun shots in the park. Also I have made complaints to the park police and to Shiller about all the homeless that sleep throught-out the area specially by marine drive and wilson. The park police said Shiller has told them to leave them sleep there as there is no place for them to sleep. I say there is in her back yard!!!!!!!!!!

  5. This is no "rumor" i assure you...

I live in the highrise on the corner of montrose and clarendon with a birds eye view of that corner, i had my windows open and hear those shots fired at 8:20 pm, then within 5 minutes, there were 4 to 6 squad cars in the area.

Kudos to the police for the fast response time!!

But it is sad that this violence is creeping further and further from the "core" problem areas. why dont these degenerate losers just do their gunfights @ the Waveland golf course? How about Wrigley? Hell, why not Millenium park...oh wait, that did happen last year during Taste of Chicago...silly me.

  6. I was at Clarendon Park playing softball, and we all heard the shots. 2-3 minutes later there were cops everywhere. My friends looked at me and said "I can't believe you live in this neighborhood."

My Friends say the same thing. It's one of the reasons none of them meet at my place. I feel lucky to make it through the summer without a bullet in my back.

  9. When I ran past the bus shelter on the corner at 5:45 am, the glass was still all over the sidewalk.

  10. Shiller would love this incident. It's good for her to have the crime spread out throughout the ward. Otherwise law abiding citizens may still choose to buy or rent on one of the safer seeming streets.

For every individual sure to vote against her that is scared away from the neighborhood (like your softball frieds), she is shipping in ten societal leeches that are a a gaurantee vote for her (assuming they are not incarcerated on election day).

  11. I live on the south side of Montrose. It's best just not to cross to the other side... That seems to be the dividing line.

  12. I was wondering what was going on last night. I live on Sunnyside and saw about 2 firetrucks and an ambulance.

  13. It doesn't make me feel a bit safer walking down the northside or the southside of the street those bullets will fly in any direction there pointed.

  14. Candice I don't think the southside of Montrose is any safer then the northside.

  15. This is true. The whole Jewel lot is also questionable. But when I walk south, I get shit (mostly) from an entirely different sort of people. Drunken college students. And it's just about their most active season again, oh boy! I think I'd be more likely to have beer spilled on me from a red plastic cup than to get shot in that direction. Lakeview/Wrigleyville and all...

  16. Why do you continually spout nonsense Candice? I agree with Ken that bullets travel in the direction they're shot with an occassion ricochet at an innocent bystander. There are enough bangers walking down your section of Hazel/Montrose and dealers from 851 Montrose to scare the crap out of any sane woman.

  17. Reply from my website, where you've been spending most of your day since you're obviously obsessed with me: I don’t believe that they’ve the time, nor inclination, nor necessary degree to psychoanalyze me as I walk by. I think it’s more likely that they recognize me as a member of their socioeconomic class who is tall, skinny, attractive, and dressed to go out for the night; and that they are behaving as drunken twenty-somethings will.

And I guess I'm not sane? Whatever. Being scared all the time is a bummer, so I don't bother. Homeless people smoking outside my window irritate me far more, personally. Probably only because I've never been shot.

And why should one NOT spout nonsense? Gotta take a break from thinking at work every now and then for my brain's sake.

  18. You significantly overrate your physical appearance. If you were somewhat less annoying in person than you are on UU I'm sure you would surely be invisible in the 'hood.

When was the last time you were proactive about the transient drinking on your stoop or smoking outside your window? Or the taggers that mark your building?

Since you've expressed disregard for Uptown, why do you continue to waste bandwith.
