Gang Gunfire After School; Weiss Hospital Injured

We're getting a lot of different reports of an extra-curricular after-school activity at Uplift School today:

- "Police received many calls about shots being fired behind Uplift School at Leland and Marine Drive. The shots were related to a fight that broke out where one student was injured (not by gunfire). The shooter was one of three males involved in the beating of a fourth student. They fled the scene after firing shots - one of which destroyed the glass door on Marine Drive to Weiss Hospital."

- "The offenders fled to Hazel and Windsor and are known to frequent that corner. I confirmed this story by driving by Weiss and they were in fact boarding up one of the glass doors, and an evidence technician was collecting the spent shell. This occurred about 4:30."

- "Some Latin Kings had issue with someone this afternoon, and after thrashing that person violently at Uplift, they thought to finish the deal by hurling little bits of lead at high velocity in the pseudo-direction of their victim. As we all know, stupid, idiotic, lame-a**ed kiddie-pool gangstas are not only notoriously ignorant, misguided and lemming-like knuckleheads, they are also notoriously bad shots. Hence, the only gunshot victim was the aforementioned door."

  1. great graphic! i like how uplift can't control extracurricular gunfire, but wants to prosecute dog walkers in the park...

  2. All I can say about Latin Kings is if you came around my old neighborhood in bridgeport they for sure turn your crowns upside down fast. Its a shame that nothing much can be done about the gangs here in our Uptown area and our fearless Hellen S. hides in her office not giving us a good solution to fix these problems. I sure miss the good old days more and more............

  3. 'Weekend' is 'spot' on (sorry for the bad pun). Walking my dog around the Arai park is now a crime. Apparently, the school would rather play host to gang fights and drug deals than responsible dog owners from the surrounding neighborhood.

  4. Heal, madandy. You've misunderstood my comment. I've called 911 on several occasions upon seeing suspicious activity in and around Arai park while walking my dog there. I agree, it would be foolish to suggest that Uplift is "okay with a gang shooting" (as you state) . . . but they do need to see the big picture here. More responsible pedestrians in the park = more opportunity to stem violence before it happens.

  6. Maybe they were just disaffected dog walkers looking to reestablish their turf? Somebody pissed on hydrant before the other could find a hydrant of their own?

  9. I live near Leland and Sheridan and have witnessed many mobs of teens fighting after school for the past couple of days. I called the district and all they could say is that they are aware of it. I also witnessed Uplift students exit the gym around noon last Friday, meet their dealer at Arai Park, roll, then smoke blunts. I walked over to the school to report it and watched a cop shag them about 10 feet then turn around and walk back into the school. I spoke with an administrator at the school who said they know who the dealer is, he's a former student, but they can't really do anything about it.....they can however issue tickets if you are walking you dog in the park.

  11. I say my position again and all these trouble spots in our Uptown needs all the help we can get. The cops can do only so much and our alderwomen is not much help either as shes too busy filling her pockets. Contact www.guardianangles.org and contact them to see if they will make a few patrols in our area for about a week or 2 and they have cleaned up a lot of crime and gangs in so many cities and towns. There is a chapter in chicago and last I seen them they had 25 members on the trains busting purse snatchers and robbers that ride them too.......Also some years back the went after Latin King gang drug selling on the West side of Chicago........
