The Crack Danube

Here is another video from that wacky street we all know and love...Clifton! Between Broadway and Wilson that is.

  1. I know these things go on daily but I am so sick of these low-lifes. I am glad you have thier activities on this tape and I hope you can show it to the caps meeting and see what their responce will be.......

  2. I've mentioned to a few people, one of them being a police officer, that the cops really should work closer with the businesses and employees in the neighborhood to identify these "hotspots" where dealing goes on. I'm at work for eight hours and see all manner of dealing, prostitution, public drinking, public urinating. I call 911 and cops show up long after the perpetrators have gone. I give descriptions and my name and off they go. A check later on either gets a "we can't give you info of an ongoing investigation" or a "we couldn't find anyone." But the cops just don't see the benefit in working in conjunction with the neighborhood outside of a once a month CAPS meeting. After all, we're just tax payers in Uptown, another pain-in-the-ass they have to deal with.

  3. This is Alderman Schiller's idea of our Broadway retail corridor. Why would she want the police to actively patrol and arrest these industrious business men!?

  4. Awesome video, have you hooked that into the Chicago system yet? If not, you should. Or how about sending it to one of the local news outlets to see if they want to anything with it. Or maybe Email the link to Daley . . .

BTW, if anyone really wants to resolve "hot spots", don't call 911, call the tact squad and speak to an officer. Give them all the information you can, and offer to show them your video or pics if you have any.

  5. Another nice job, while it did not make me laugh like the man vs the dumsper video, I still liked it.

I wonder if by the end of the sumer you will be able to come up with the tri-fecta video where on the same frame you have a urinator, a drug deal, and another crime all occuring at the same instant at the same place. Probably not that hard, to come by.

  8. Several years ago Carol Marin did a series on heroin and gangs in Chicago, at the time I wrote her about the shelter in these videos. At the time the day to day management was performed by 4 gang members (GDs or VLs or LKs - I cannot recall) who were using the shelter as a front to deal drugs. Making the story even more juicy is the fact that the shelter was at the time (still is?) owned by a group named Jesus People USA who are making a pretty good income housing these people on the city's dime.

You would think that a journalist like Marin would jump on a story involving gangs, drugs, a Christian group and possibly the political powers that be in Uptown and sadly, you would be wrong. Ms. Marin's response told me that she had no interest in stirring that pot and to date I have not seen such a report from her. It's going to take videographers with a sense of humor like uptownsmostwanted, the blogger(s) here at UU and the public to get some of this news out far enough so that the Tribunes and NBCs of our town are forced to recognize what some Chicago politicians are allowing under their (her) noses.
