What Not To Do

2323 Beat Facilitator Michael Carroll writes in:

"I took this photo in front of my building in Buena Park. PLEASE!! Everyone needs to be more mindful of what they leave out (like a large purse) for potential thieves to pilfer from the unsuspecting. Please be more vigilant, Uptown!"

  1. Wow.. just, wow. Might as well put a "please break my window" sign on the car.

  2. When I lived in New York, I had a car window broken so the thief could get the only thing in my car: a 16-oz bottle of Diet Coke. That cured me of leaving *anything* visible. Good thing it was Ofcr. Carroll who saw this and not a thug.

  4. No kidding. Did Trixie also leave her Land Rover unlocked with the keys under the sun visor?

    Please get a clue.

  5. I once arrested a man for breaking into a car. His loot? A small package of Wrigleys chewing gum. He went to prison. I went home and slept like a newborn baby.

  6. Just now on Marine Drive near Junior Terrace is a black convertible with it's window blown out. It wasn't like that this morning. I would guess it's a case and point.

  7. My neighbor made the mistake of parking her car on Montrose one night, and her window was smashed out, and a package of Pampers was taken.
That is so heart warming! Thugs looking after their toddlers.

  8. While biking in the summer I am amaazed at the amount of autoglass shards I see on the streets knowing that the streets are swept weekly smash and grabs are far more frequent that we know.

  9. Hate to seem to be blaming the victim(s) here, but if you don't leave anything in your car, not even your GPS or spare change, chances are slim you'll have your car window broken. Sad fact of life, but this IS the big city. My friends call me paranoid for whisking everything out of my car when it's parked outside, but I've never had my car broken into. As far as the purse left on the seat of the car in the picture, that amazes me that someone could be that naive.

If that isn't the truth, I don't know what is. Unbelievable.

  11. I carelessly did the same thing (had been doing it for years) and yes, eventually my window was broken and everything stolen.
