A reader writes in with the following pic showing Leland just east of Broadway:
"I walk up Leland everyday on the way to the L and I notice this "black box" which I think used to hold newspapers or magazines. Those days are long gone, but for whatever reason, it is still chained to a street sign. I remember hearing at a CAPS meeting that drug dealers are hiding their drugs inside for pickup at a later time. Why are we even allowing these boxes to be on the street? This one has gang graffiti covering one side of it. Thanks."
Just yesterday at the corner of Leland and Broadway on the side of the building being renovaed I saw a man go into the "Homes" newspaper box and pull out a bag of something. No one had been in that box all morning and he just walked up and pulled out a grey plastic bag full of something. I know the newspaper boxes get emptied by the paper companies quite often but this particular news box has been empty for months now. I have to admit, it's a great place for your stash, who would think to look in there?
ReplyDeleteI am so going to raid that box on my way home. Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteWhen you pass a black box, take a look inside. Also, the "junk" trucks go up and down the alleys on a daily basis. Flag one of them down, and have them take away the metal boxes.
ReplyDeleteThere is one on Argyle by the red line station. I pass by it all the time and have been curious about it for a long time. This one is chained to the poll and also locked shut. It seems like a pretty easy problem to take care of. Why hasn't anyone done anything about it?
