Blast From The 46th Ward Past?

We spotted this vintage advertisement amongst the memorabilia lining the "Dairy Queen" walls on Southport. Does anyone know about Floyd Saunders' run for 46th Ward alderman? Can you imagine an aldermanic candidate with a campaign poster like this nowadays? My, how times have changed.

  1. I don't know about Floyd's run for alderman, however, he was a day bartender at Wrigleyville Tap for many, many years! If I'm not mistaken, I think he passed away a couple of years ago.

  2. Floyydddd. Floyd also worked at a bar at Byron and Southport. I forget the damn name at the moment. I guess I'll have to subpoena my brain to get the answer.

  4. Don't know exactly when Floyd was running for alderman, but didn't the 46th Ward mainly encompass Lakeview, rather than Uptown, at one time? I know there is a 46th Ward sign in the alley at Byron and Addison.

Shiller used to have some of Southport before the redistricting, but after losing that, what did she get in return? Another area to blight?

  5. Miss Kitty... don't Byron and Addison run parallel? I'd love to see the sign, but can't figure out where it might be. Thanks.

  6. Oops, my bad, not Byron - Bosworth. Sorry about that. The sign, if its still there, can be seen on the telephone pole when walking west on Addison its on the north side in the alley right before Ashland (the alley of Bosworth and Addison). Kinda rusted out, but 46th Ward is visable. I think it was a pest control sign or something.

I know the 46th still has some of Lakeview, but in the 2000 redistricting, Shiller lost some of Lakeview. My point was, I am sure that the 46th ward map was quite different 30 - 40 years ago than it is now.
