The bad news keeps on coming: A reader says that the corner of Malden and Leland was Working Girl Central during the weekend's warm(ish) weather. If you happen to see this, call the police to report it. If you can figure out where the ladies are living or hiding when the squad car goes by, include that with your 911 report.
A few years ago, this corner was infamous for its ladies of the evening, and neighborhood activism helped curtail it quite a bit. Calls and vigilance by the community are good ways to keep it from taking over again.
A couple readers also wrote in to say that there've been a lot of car windows broken on their blocks. Hard to say if this is vandalism or theft, but please don't leave anything of value in plain sight in your car. As a cop told a CAPS meeting: "It doesn't cost them anything to break your car window, and even if all they get is a six-pack of pop, they might be able to sell it for a buck or two." Call 911 if you see anyone peering into car windows or attempting to open car doors as they walk down the street.
Speaking from experience, last week this happened to me. Upon discovering my drivers side front window smashed at 9:30 a.m. on the 10th of December, I went to our surveillance cameras began searching. I found the footage of the event, I exported the video to a cd and called the police. The police showed up about 15 min later to "help". I must say I was disappointed when he didn't want the video, didn't even get out of his car to look and proceeded to tell me that I should park out on Broadway or a better lit street. If anyone cares to see the footage I'd more than happily post it up for viewing pleasure.
ReplyDeleteOh one more thing... When I did call 911, they transferred me to 311. So save the trouble and just go 311, since this is not looked at as a priority call. Seriously, anyone want to see this footage??? It's your choice.
ReplyDeletePost it!
ReplyDeleteYes! I would also write a letter to Harris and Stearn. WTF!@!
ReplyDeleteOh by the way, thanks for the tip on where the hookers are, it'll give mesomething to do this weekend...
ReplyDeletej/k
i wrote to this blog with a description of one of the people who was breaking into cars on my block...my neighbor caught him in progress going through her car...he fled when approched by my neighbor...
ReplyDeletehe was approx. 6ft tall, black man with a green puffy coat and riding or pushing a mountain style bicycle...
i understand this is a sort of vague description, but it is an eyewitness report so I feel it is necessary to pass the information along.
uptown-----sorry your car got broken into. It's such an invasion and the last thing you expect to see when you approach you car.
ReplyDeleteIf you actually witnessed someone breaking into your car, (or someone else's) it would be a call to 911. The fact that you are calling after the incident is a 311 call.
As far as the video, if you think it clearly shows the act of breaking into your car, I would recommend that you make an appointment to show the disc to someone in the Community Policing office of your district. Hope this helps.
Post the video if you can. I would go out of your way to conceal information that would reveal anything about you or your property though.
ReplyDeleteBetter safe than sorry. When we go public, we should do so with the least amount of information that communicates the message we want to send.
I once had someone slash the plastic window on my Jeep Wrangler (rather that simply unzip it and reach inside) to steal an old plastic tarp.
ReplyDeleteThe tarp cost about $5
The window cost about $150.
Stupid ol' crook.
Just leav the doors open on your car, and the windows. That way, if someone wants to steal something, they don't have to brea anything!
ReplyDeleteOf course, many of those people break the stuff just to amuse themselves.
I'm interested in the descriptions of "Working Girls." I am convinced of a group of girls (Who look like hookers, dress like hookers, and act like hookers) who reside or "rest" in an apartment in my neighborhood (Ainslie St). I don't know which apartment, but I do know they have a "pimpish" (tall black man with salt/pepper dreads) guy who drives various vehicles (gold ford windstar (van), green ford expedition, and recently an maroon suv with Massachusetts plates) and is constantly picking up and dropping girls off. Most of the girls are white.
ReplyDeleteSince the weather has gotten colder, I have not noticed them as much as I did during the summer. Various neighbors have documented and notified police but they say they cannot do anything until they see them in action or witness a crime. I want them out of the building and out of our neighborhood. We are currently considering hiring a private investigator because the condo president is refusing to corporate and is demanding we stop inquiring. Sounds to me like he is getting something in return for his protection of these girls.
Sorry to hear about that, Uptown. And I'm really sorry to hear that the police weren't able to do anything to help. I say post the video, if you're able.
ReplyDeletePost it on YouTube
ReplyDeleteTake complaints and info (about hooker address) to the commander. She is usually available to talk with Uptowners. Hsttid snd Steans will request that.
ReplyDeleteWait a sec.
ReplyDeleteThere's been a post about hookers up for over 12 hours and no comment from Irish Pirate?
Can someone do a health check on our favorite morally challenged buccaneer?
Irish Pirate?
ReplyDeleteHe is probably over there!
I've been taking notes. I feel the need to investigate this further.
ReplyDeleteOf course if the street hookers look like the ones I've seen in the past working streets I am better off staying home.
The last group I saw working the streets in Uptown were heavier and uglier than me. That is hard to accomplish.
I'm not sure if someone said this already, but lets not forget that its not only the "Ladies of the Night" but the "Johns" that need to be targeted as well... They are breaking the law also.
ReplyDeleteOccasionally there is hooker-ish activity on Leland and Sheridan. There's one lovely in particular that often wears a white coat. She hangs out and walks around the corner for hours. I've called before and watched what happens. When police drive by she walks further down the block and is very aware of the police. It happens in many places.
ReplyDeleteNot to worry Pirate...
ReplyDelete"I checked her out about a week ago…And I’m healthy as a horse……Not a drip!"
Hmm...if only there were social services to help those less fortunate get a real job or toys for their kids. I wonder where these ladies could find that kind of assistance. I've never heard of such a thing in Uptown.
ReplyDeleteLoosen up guys....geeesh.
ReplyDeleteProstitution should be legal anyway....
Jason,
ReplyDeletestreet hooking should be illegal. The type of hooking you see advertised on Craiglist should generally be legal.
Well, it should be legal and regulated. There are Hookers on CL? Wow. Can you send me a link? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI saw the old hooker with the hairy legs get arrested last week on Leland and Broadway. What a sight that was. She has got to have the ugliest legs I've ever seen. And I've seen my own, so that's saying something.
ReplyDeleteI remember a lot of this nonsense was down at Broadway and Buena a few years back.
ReplyDeleteHas Helen's office promised future safe houses at WY or something?
