TCF Robbed?

Seems we've got a robbery spree going on in the neighborhood. A "Breaking News" story in the Tribune about a shooting near Water Tower makes reference to a bank robbery in Uptown:

An FBI agent apparently shot a bank robbery suspect near the landmark Chicago Water Tower on North Michigan Avenue and East Pearson Street this morning. [...] Authorities could not say immediately how the incidents were related, but the FBI said the shooting stemmed from an earlier bank robbery in the 4300 block of North Sheridan Road. continue reading here.

The Southtown Star adds: "The suspect had robbed a bank earlier Monday morning in the 4300 block of North Sheridan Road and was tracked to the 800 block of North Michigan Avenue, according to the FBI. "

The only bank we can think of on that block is the TCF inside Jewel-Osco. If anyone has any more information, please post it in the comments.

Update: It was TCF that got robbed. From the Sun-Times story: "A man suspected of robbing a bank in the Uptown neighborhood Monday morning was shot and seriously wounded by an FBI agent downtown near Loyola University's campus just off of Michigan Avenue when he tried to run over another FBI agent. [...] The suspect had robbed a TCF Bank branch earlier Monday morning in the 4300 block of North Sheridan Road and was tracked to the 800 block of North Michigan Avenue, according to the FBI."

  2. WAMU is on Broadway. The TCF address is on Sheridan.

I was at Jewel earlier today to get my medication(alcohol). I accidently wandered to the southern part of the store where they sell food, who knew?, and noticed an unarmed guard in front of the TCF.

    Never saw that before.

  4. and now for something completely different..............no activity over at Wilson Yard today. I walked by twice as I've been running errands today.

It's not cold enough to stop construction generally. So I'm going to speculate that space aliens have taken over the site and now control Uptown's future.

The only real question is whether Helen welcomed the space aliens with open arms or suggested a campaign donation to facilitate her welcoming.

  5. wow, so we have busted out windows on wilson at Alma Pita and the cleaners, then we have them on Montrose at Driftwood and Taqueria Mr. Salsa.

On saturday, I saw the cops arrest a guy on the street at Wilson and Marine and I was asked if I saw a gun. I think the suspect threw it under a nearby car as a cop was standing guard.

I am just utterly disheartened by the uptick in bullshit this holiday season.

  6. Just found out that Driftwood got hit Satuday night around 4:30AM.

I am surpirsed that the Alderman hasn't condemed the uptick in break-ins.

    IP:

Gee, let me think, Space Aliens or Hellen? Huh. I gotta go with space aliens on this one. WOuld be a step up for sure.

  7. I saw at least 20 people inside Wilson Yard this morning at 7:30AM. I was viewing from the southbound trains.

It looked like construction as usual, though I was hoping for hell freezes over delays.

  8. Perhaps I was wrong on Wilson Yard activity. No cranes were moving late this lovely morn or early afternoon.

Perhaps it was a mirage caused by Jewel purchased alcohol?

  9. WY has had so many delays...and now frozen tundra!
The only problem is...Holsten gets his money no matter what! Will he have the nerve to ask Helen for more funds to cover weather delays???????????

  10. There was activity at the WY construction site this morning.

Back to the break-ins, that's one store on Broadway, two on Wilson, two on Montrose, and a bank in...how many days?

What's our precious alderman lady doing about this crime spree in our midst?

  11. ..and....what happens when the crime turns residential??? The stores are easy targets, but so many of our buildings are empty during the work day!!!

  12. What's our precious alderman lady doing about this crime spree in our midst?

    Probably encouraging it.

  13. Helen's response to crime is she doesn't have "knee-jerk reactions" to it (per her website).

In other words, she ignores it.

  14. A P, threats to "blow someone away" are against Blogger's Terms of Service. We keep them up, our blog stands the chance of being deleted.

  15. no one is threatening anyone...all I am saying...you come through my door without my consent, you get what is coming...

  16. And that's your right. But Blogger owns this site, and they have pretty specific terms of service on what can and can't be said. We don't want our blog flagged for any of those reasons, because Blogger can and does delete entire blogs for violation of its rules.

  17. freedom of speech at it again...

  18. Please don't use 'freedom of speech' as an excuse to say anything indecent or violent in nature. Because we live together in a society, freedom must have restrictions. Threats (even if directed at criminals) have no place on this forum and free speech has nothing do to with it.

  19. A.P.,
This isn't free speech. Just like if I come up to someone on the street and threaten them, that isn't me just exercising free speech.

  20. Here's the deal: We've chosen to publish with Blogger/Google. They're paying the freight, giving us the opportunity and bandwidth to publish Uptown Update.

So we've agree to abide with their Terms of Service, which ban, among other things, "VIOLENT CONTENT: Users may not publish direct threats of violence against any person or group of people."

I suppose if a person felt strongly that they don't agree with the ToS, they can self-publish their blogs, exempt from restrictions. But we don't have a problem with them.
