Speaking Of Parking....

... No wonder the Truman students want to park on permit-only streets.

Parking at the meters is going up to at least a dollar an hour.

Permit parking is "such a deal!" in comparison.

Read about it here.

  1. next Wed 12/17/08 the City Council will approve the parking meter lease - we will hear from alderman how they have no choice: the budget they approved last month which includes pay raises for themselves & their staffs depends on the up-front cash from the deal

the deal by happy coincidence greatly increases the political value of a program our legislators put themselves in charge of: selling permits

  2. The Daley administration said $400 million will go into a long-term reserve,

That will go along nicely with the $600+ Million already in long term reserve (via TIF).

By "long term reserve" ..., Daley actually means "Olympic funding."

How much are these damned games going to cost us?

By the time they arrive no one in the city will have enough $$ left over to actually attend.

The City gub'mint is simply out of control at this point.

    que the Beatles.

  3. I don't have a problem with this. I think parking should cost more. Cheap parking is one more way we subsidize auto dependency. Read "The High Cost of Free Parking" by UCLA professor Donald Shoup.

  5. I have a problem with the City selling/leasing all the assets for short term gain.

If they want to help the City how about privatizing garbage collection and other City services so we don't need 3 guys standing around while one guy does the work.

    *snicker*

You mean that brain trust of public people-movers known as the CTA who will be jacking prices in January?

  7. R., I agree. I know I ask a lot of questions, but is there anyone who know if there is /where there is a breakdown of the city budget numbers? Not by any means will they be accurate, but I am curious.

The economic model the city runs on (Revenue! Revenue! Revenue!) seems to me to be flawed. By drawing in more tourists, or big time events - that doesn't seem sustainable over the long run.

I think they should charge you per key stroke everytime you type.

Whats wrong? Is the city not reaping the whirlwind from all that tabacco tax increase? Did the extra tax on water bottles not pan out?

Everytime they raise rates/taxes it comes back to bite them in the arse.

  9. I guess the city really does have to raise rates and fees on everything.

How else are they going to be able to afford the new CPD Tahoes?

(Note: no money for new cops, but $59.2M for swanky, gas guzzling SUVs).
