Mustaches For Kids Fundraiser For Chicago Public Schools

If you're looking for an excuse for some facial hair, this fundraiser, organized by an Uptown resident (and Uptown Update reader), is a great excuse -- use your follicles for charity! The kickoff was Thursday (today), but you can still join in. Go to the website for details.

Even if you don't want to, or can't, sprout whiskers, you can sponsor someone's mustache, just as you would a walk-a-thon participant.

Now in its third year, the annual Mustaches for Kids fundraising event in Chicago combines an in (on?) your face concept with a commitment to raise money for Chicago public schools. M4K growers compete to sprout the sweetest 'stash in four weeks' time while soliciting the most pledges and donations to the campaign. The official growing season will end on December 13th with a final judging at Stash Bash 2008, but there is no set deadline for fundraising. You can support the campaign by donating to M4K's Chicago growers, or make a general donation, directly supporting teachers' independent requests for classroom aid, be it new desks, books or a photocopy machine.
