Black Cat Found At Leland & Malden

A reader writes in:
"Well, I’m not sure if you can do this, but tonight I found a really cool black cat out in front of our place on Malden and Leland. He or she has these huge paws with six toes and is super friendly. We heard him meowing out in front, and when I went out to investigate he came right to me. He/she isn’t afraid of us at all, but is really sweet and friendly. He’s a bit on the thin side. We’re loath to send such friendly cat to the shelter since it may be someone’s pet. If you can post a quick blurb, that would be great. I also put up a posting on craigslist." (note: the photo shown is not the cat in question)

  1. I hope the reader took the cat to be checked for a microchip - that may be the fastest way to find the owner.

  2. If the owners don't surface, please consider taking the critter to Tree House at 1212 West Carmen in Uptown. It's a no-kill shelter specifically catering to felines.

  3. Make sure it is not Helen in a different form first

  5. I think I may have seen the same cat in the alley between Racine and Magnolia, really close to Wilson. Very sweet cat. Maybe he/she originates from that area.

  6. If this is the same car- it's been living around Magnolia and Leland for the past 3 years. Very nice cat- but seems to be feral.
Anyway- hope it gets a good home and good care.

  7. I still suspect it is Shiller. She is frightened to walk around in human form. It protects her from Bad Apples and allows her to gather information and fight the evil of the Condo. Or it is just her normal black magic witch, black cat, broom stick ways. Next time you see this "cat" check it for TIF dollars and a mole.

  8. I think I saw a posting on the RedEye box outside of the red line at Wilson today - something about a lost cat. I don't know if it's a black cat that's missing or not. I just read "lost cat".

Maybe someone should check this out?

  9. Thanks everyone for your ideas and suggestions. I can assure you this cat is definitely not Helen! It doesn't appear this cat belongs to anyone - I suspect it may have been someone's pet at one time, since it so at ease around us humans, but was perhaps abandoned. I will be calling around to different shelters today to find a place for "Hemingway," as I have been calling it. BTW, I did check the poster down by the el, but that was a posting for another cat someone found.

  11. Through the use of a Quija board and alcohol I have confirmed some folks suspicions about the cat.

  12. Joy, I do hope it is your neighbor's cat! I'm getting pretty attached to Hemingway, although I've been having a lot of overwhelmingly positive thoughts about Wilson Yard (??) Just kidding. But seriously, email me at jess63634@hotmail.com if you find anything out. I need to make a decision by Wednesday - hopefully Treehouse will have room by then, or if not, Hem will be going to the Anti-Cruelty Society.

  13. Perhaps the cat can find some transitional housing, then re-assimilate into the productive, self supporting society of felines.

Also, perhaps we can put some litter boxes outside so that the cat has a place to relieve himself.

But maybe the cat doesn't want to be in a shelter. The shelters have too many rules, and those Jesus People are freaks. Maybe he'd just rather live on the streets.

This is America. Cats have rights, too.
