Apparent Drug Bust In 4500 Block Of Magnolia

A reader writes in:
"Not sure if you’ve heard this from anybody yet. But last night (Thursday) at about 9:30 pm there appeared to be a huge drug bust of some sort in the building 2nd south from Sunnyside Mall on the west side of Magnolia. There were literally 10 unmarked police cars and one marked K-9 unit taking up the entire street from Montrose north to the building. They busted down the front door of the building and started screaming “POLICE, SEARCH WARRANT." It happened pretty fast, they all pulled in together and they all jumped out of their cars at once and stormed the building, I was very startled. Anyway, this is one of the problem buildings in the neighborhood, so hopefully there is progress being made behind the scenes with these issues that many Uptowners are concerned with."

  1. Any idea which address on Magnolia?

  2. Around this same time we heard 5 loud pops in row that sounded like gun shots coming from the Sunnyside mall. It may have just been car doors slamming if there were 10 unmarked units hitting the location.

    That's a lot of manpower.

  3. I heard that as well. We called the cops because the sound was so out of place we thought maybe it was gunfire.

No cop cars stormed Sunnyside like before, so they must have been there allready.

    Yeah Cops!

  4. I sure hope Copwatch was there to film, you know to protect the rights of the drug dealers...

  5. As far as I have heard, there still have been no arrests in the daylight murder on Labor Day weekend - the police supposedly know who the killer is. It would not be unusual to have that kind of force to enter a building to arrest a fugitive killer. I am not suggesting any association here, I am just discouraged that that scumbag is seemingly still walking the streets. It is always great to hear CPD hitting bad buildings and bad people with force. Thanks CPD!

  6. still no specifics yet.
I'm sure this would be the norm at Helen's Wilson Yard in the future?
I'm used to the cops storming the alley at Malden/Magnolia.....hello Helen on Carmen? Are you proud of your district?

  9. The people arrested were well known to the police. They went through the building with a fine tooth comb. All I have to say as a resident is the negative element will finally be removed.

  10. anonymousuptown, I take it you live in that building??? I walk by there on a daily basis and have noticed one apartment on the second floor that I assumed was the problem. Was there only one problem resident???

I think I speak for most when I say that it is unfortunate when one building gets a bad reputation because of one resident, but hopefully now that this element is gone those who live there not involved in iilegal activity can live more comfortably knowing that they are now safer.
