Second Uptown Town Hall Meeting - Date TBA

Update: The meeting will NOT be held on October 22nd. Rep. Harris's office informs us that the Truman Cafeteria has already been booked by another group that evening.

Please stay tuned and we will let you know the meeting date as soon as we hear that it's been finalized.

From the latest UCC newsletter:

State Legislators plan follow-up Town Hall meeting

State Senator Heather Steans and State Representative Greg Harris have convened two smaller meetings since their Public Safety Town Hall meeting this summer.

Their role going forward will be to provide very visible support to public safety initiatives throughout the community. They've reached out to stakeholders who do not regularly engage in CAPS and block club activities - and are working to improve interaction on this important matter to all who live and/or work in Uptown.

Heather and Greg desire to:

  • support the efforts of informed and active stakeholders,

  • expand the pool of organizations working the issue,

  • and let those closest to the problems of public safety set the course of action.

They will host another Public Safety Town Hall meeting on [a date to be announced shortly]. They will introduce four people recruited to work on aspects of public safety - and they will provide sign-up sheets so residents can step up and join the efforts of these working groups.

Also, don't forget UCC's Public Safety Meeting on Tuesday, October 14 at St. Augustine College. Both police commanders will attend, and there will be commendations for the detective who worked on the Baby Wilson case and for Brendan Shephard, who found Baby Wilson and brought him to the fire station.

  1. Sounds good. I have met with both in the past and am happy they are following up and doing not just talking.

Here is what I would like from Rep. Harris and Sen Steans. I would like to know where they stand with Wilson Yard. Has anyone pressed them on this issue? This could be the biggest and most dangerous issue in regards to the public saftey of all of us in Uptown. To borrow a line from Barack, if Wilson Yard is built that will be a "game changer."
