(Crain's) — The owner of La Donna Restaurant, a pioneer of upscale dining in Andersonville when it opened 13 years ago, is moving her Italian eatery about two miles north to the edge of Rogers Park.
Antonella Barbanente says a shortage of convenient parking and increased competition from a growing number of restaurants in the trendy neighborhood led her to sell La Donna's home at 5146 N. Clark St., next door to the well-known Hopleaf Bar. The transaction also allows her to cash in on the dramatic rise in real estate prices in the increasingly affluent shopping strip along Clark Street at Foster Avenue. Continue Reading
Oh, yay! I love La Donna. It'll be nice to have it within walking distance (so I can walk off that balsamic-cream sauce).
ReplyDeleteUm, Rogers Park starts at Devon - 6400 North. 6340 N. Clark St isn't in Rogers Park. The new location is in Edgewater. Copying these stories from other sources without checking their accuracy, as you did here, is a dangerous thing.
ReplyDeleteReally TW, that upset by UU missing the neighborhood by less than a block? Not to mention, as is the case with most every neighborhood in Chicago, its not as if the borders are actual political boundaries. While I do agree that Devon is traditionally the southern boundary of the Rogers Park Neighborhood, a random sampling of internet maps shows the border as far south as Peterson (now, Devon is definitely the southern border of Rogers Park Township but, if thats the standard we are using, I guess I live in Lakeview)
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. If you ask 8 people in this city what the boundaries of a neighborhood are, you'll get 8 different answers. So gauging "accuracy" is a tricky thing (not "dangerous"). Regardless, if it happens in Uptown, Andersonville, Edgewater, Rogers Park, Lakeview, Wrigleyville... I want to know about it, and that's the service UU is providing.
ReplyDeleteit's a freakin' restaurant people, chill out...esp you TW
ReplyDeleteHopefully there will be more successful Andersonville restaurants that cash in and move farther north to "deskankify" that area of "Edgerogers Park."
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I don't visit LaDonna or Hopleaf chiefly because the parking situation sucks so badly near Clark and Foster.
I heard a rumor that Labor Ready bought the bldg.
ReplyDeleteCowboy. You know good and well Shiller isn't going to have Labor Ready that close to her residence. She would be up in arms.
ReplyDeletebillyjoe - try public trans or take a cab. Andersonville is a great neighborhood, but like many in a big city, doesn't have much parking because there are actually a ton of people there.
ReplyDeleteThe reason this is important is that the Uptown Update copies selected stories from other places without checking them out. Mistakes get propagated that way.
ReplyDeleteAs for there not being a clear definition of neighborhood boundaries, the City of Chicago has 77 officially defined neighborhood areas. Rogers Park ends at Devon.
