The Ripple Effect

Residents in the communities surrounding the 46th Ward are now approaching their own aldermen regarding Ald. Shiller's plans that adversely affect their communities. (Think of Ald. Mary Ann Smith's staff member, Nancy Meyerson, speaking out against Labor Ready at the Zoning Board, and reps from Ald. Gene Schulter's office sitting onstage at the Town Hall meeting about Uptown's crime.)

If only residents of the 46th Ward had an advocate to turn to....!

As a follow-up to our Wilson Yard meeting hosted by Graceland West, we are organizing a group of neighbors to attend the open meeting session at the Alderman's office on this Wed. (9-10-08) at 7:00 PM. We hope to discuss with him how this project will impact our neighborhood. Please join us at the 47th ward office, 4237 Lincoln.

UPDATE from the comments: "PLEASE NOTE: The meeting with Alderman Schulter for September 10 has been postponed until further notice. Alderman Schulter is out of town."

The quoted material is from a mailing sent by Graceland West block club. The Fix Wilson Yard organization suggests a final sentence of "If you want more information on how this project will impact the community and how you can help, go to www.fixwilsonyard.org."

  1. Interesting development. Sounds worthy of an appearance.

  2. Things can always be better and a good start is to post your agenda on your website before others post it on their website.

    It's 9/9 and the meeting is 9/10?

If you want to run a community campaign with a "flash mob" strategy, you need to have the mob already plugged into the model.

  3. Can those other wards start a refugee camp for us?

  4. As a 47th ward resident I will be there.

heh. There's another supporting suggestion for the "government in exile" idea.

  6. By the way - it's not a ripple effect. It's a freakin' neutron bomb.

  7. Poster "Farrell" mentioned that a meeting was being held at the Synagogue on Kenmore in a previous post....this block club meeting is also being held on the 10th

It'll be interesting to see whether or not anyone from the Ward office shows up....

    From a previous post:
The Argyle Winmore Block Club has requested Shiller, Smith and Boehmer to attend a Block Club Meeting.

    Date: Wednesday September 10, 2005
Location: The Synagogue (5029 N. Kenmore)
    Time: 7:00 pm

    Topic: Crime in our neighborhood

I'm going to this meeting. I'll let you know who shows up, and what was said.

  8. I will keep everone posted. I doubt she is going to show up to my block club's meeting, if this is going on at the same time. But you never know. In the three plus years I've lived here, I've only seen Helen attend one of the block club meetings she's been invited to.

  10. You think any of those Alderman will endorse Shiller in the next election?

  11. Can anyone verify what motordc is saying or is someone just trying to prevent people from attending?

  12. It's been emailed to the UU mailbox from several different people, some of whom we've gotten reliable information from before, so no need for suspicion.

Let's not see boogiemen behind every tree!

  13. Caring Neighbor,

It was a legitimate question. There's plenty of trolls in BlogWorld.

  14. Just talked to Shulter's city hall office. According to that office, NO MEETING WAS EVER PLANNED! Can UU verify who posted the mis-information and why?
Caring Neighbor! Welcome to Shiller's world! Check behind your trees!

  16. Monica. Please call Shulter's office and let us know what you find out. All of us really want this to happen.

  17. It would probably be helpful if all of us, not just Monica, took some responsibility and called Schulter's office re: the meeting. Here is the info.

  18. As hard as it is for us in the 46th Ward gulag to believe, apparently Ald. Schulter holds regularly scheduled open session meetings. The Graceland West residents planned to attend one and bring up the Wilson Yard question. Then they found out Ald. Schulter was out of town, and I'm betting they're planning to go to the next meeting.

As per the original post: "we are organizing a group of neighbors to attend the open meeting session at the Alderman's office on this Wed. (9-10-08) at 7:00 PM. We hope to discuss with him how this project will impact our neighborhood."

  19. Schulter is in town. He just spoke at a city hall meeting. Not sure where he'll be tonight, but he's in the city now.

  20. Reminds me of an old post on BPN:

    The Shiller Zone

There is something wrong with your neighborhood. PLEASE attempt to
adjust its picture. WE are controlling communication. If WE wish to
    make
it louder, WE will bring up the volume. If WE wish to make it softer,
    WE
will tune it to a whisper. WE will improve the focus and sharpen it to
crystal clarity. WE will control the horizontal. WE will control the
vertical. For the next four years, don't sit quietly, so someone else
can control all that you see and hear. You are about to experience the
awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to the VOTING BOOTHS
    OF UPTOWN.

Lets get out of the nightmare and control our own destiny.

I saved the post but not the author. So to whoever wrote it......I thank ye'.

  21. It's really yet another validation of Shiller's toxic effect in Uptown.

It's funny to think if she ever thought her post-hippy days in the tent-city on Malden, would ever lead to this mess? Do you think she ever wonders what on earth she's done wrong?
