  2. Surprised this doesn't happen more. I see people with scooters heading onto Lake Shore Drive. With those potholes?... Helmet or no helmet...

  3. Gee, that really sucks (helmet or not). I have been contemplating getting one for a while but just don't think the city is really ready for them and wouldn't feel safe. I'm completely appalled whenever I see someone with a scooter on LSD.

  4. I live on Beacon and I was driving home last night and saw the three police cars. The scooter looked pretty beat up. I hope she is okay, but I overheard an officer say she was in pretty bad shape.

  5. I don't know why people just don't buy smaller cc motorcycles. They're just as good on gas mileage as scooters. Lot's safer too - with the larger "full sized" wheels.

And a helmet is a must. My motto is, "you got a 10 dollar head, wear a 10 dollar helmet."

I recommend lessons for beginners or newbies. Sarah at Motorcycle Riding School is about the best there is.... besides myself.

  7. Hopefully she will recover quickly.

    Not much else to say.

  8. Keep in mind any scooter 50cc and larger requires a motorcycle licence. Most new riders don't get one. They just want to start riding and worry about the licence later.

  9. HUH? Aren't ambulances supposed to transport emergency patients to the NEAREST hospital? Which should have been either Weiss or Methodist (Paulina & Winnemac). I hope she recovers OK - if not, and if the time factor between Sheridan Park and Masonic Hospital is a contributing factor, there may be a lawsuit in the works.

  10. Three things:

    1. If no helmet then she's just dumb.

    2. What is she doing in that area at 1 am on a scooter? It could be argued that ridingh a scooter at that time of night on a major street could be considered dumb.

    3. Everyone knows that you only go Weiss if you a. have no insurance and b. have been shot. I don't know anyone that would voluntarily go there. The only people I've heard of going there were people that had been shot.

  11. Oh, I dunno, cowboy...maybe she's a night worker coming home from her shift, and her salary at said job doesn't leave much room for purchasing a helmet?
(Not that she shouldn't have been wearing one, just making the argument.)

  12. Where her accident happened, Illinois Masonic is the closest level one trauma center, which is the best for trauma patients.

  13. BTW - it's illegal to drive a scooter on LSD that won't do the minimum speed limit.

  15. The women involved in this accident is making a slow but wonderful recovery. From what I understand she was cut off by some inconsiderate driver. PLEASE pay attention to all on the road including motorcycles, scooters, bicyclists, pedestrians, etc!!!!!!!!

Cowboy had some pretty harsh comments. Scooters are now a big part of our society for many reasons...economic being the biggest of them all. Would it have been any different if it happened at 1 pm?? Really?? How about if she was on a bicycle??

I'm asking all riders!! Please be aware of your surroundings. Never assume the other driver sees you. To learn more on safe riding lessons visit motorcyclelearning.com. They offer great motorcycle and scooter classes along with other classes. Great place!!
