Buying A Condo? Drinks Are On Seller

Real estate developer Scott Whelan has come up with a clever way to help sell condos on Agatite. Buyers will get a $3,000 credit at nearby "Bar on Buena." Read all about it at the Sun-Times here.

  1. Um, thats like 300 Deliriums, which would be very very very bad for your liver.

Conceptually, given buyers gift certificates to local merchants is an awesome idea, and in an area like Uptown, you could probably put together a really nice package of retailers looking for extra business. However, it seems a bit silly to get a 3K gift certificate to a bar.

I may need to move. $3000 in bar money. As my hero Homer Simpson might say "drooooooooooooool".

  3. I have to agree with you, windycityeagle. A package of gift certificates to be spent throughout Uptown would sow a lot of good will and help out many neighborhood businesses. Maybe I'll try something similar as a landlord.

  7. Longtime reader, first time commenter...

I'm an agent with Keller Williams. If you or anyone you know is interested in looking at one of these condos, let me know! I'd love to represent you!

I have a friend who lives on Agatite, and I can tell you that it is a very neighborly block. Everyone knows each other and they just had another successful block party.

  8. Interesting take on incentives. I've heard from other friends who got free tv's that they got low end crap models/brands. $3K is booze and food is a darn good idea. Hope they sell!

  9. Hmmm....in the great Chicago tradition, poor people in Uptown get liquor in exchange for voting here; while middle-class people in Uptown get liquor in exchange for moving here.

    "City on the Make" indeed!

  10. Just FYI, Bar on Buena also has marvelous food and nice ambiance, as well as the full gamut of sodas. Those who think there is only beer deny themselves one of our little treaures. Yes, those burger wraps are divine.

  12. I wish we had more places like BOB in the neighborhood. How about across the street at the old KFC? Keep building more. :)
