Wilson Yard Site Progress

The Bench, in Rogers Park, has gotten some good photos of what's been going on behind the double fences at the Wilson Yard construction site. Take a peek here at photos taken earlier today.

Too bad we have to learn what's going on from glimpses of the site taken from the el passing by. But, hey, if you want to take in a movie at Cricket Hill, or learn about recycling, check out Alderman Shiller's web site.

  1. Progress? Funny, these images look pretty much like the same photos that have been published several times on Uptown Update in the past few months: bulldozers pushing dirt around.

Next, link to the Mannis blogsite, read some of his bloviating entries, then ask yourself if this guy is a truly credible source for anything.

  2. I dunno, compared to the July 4th photos, there seems to be quite a bit less rubble and a cleaner site overall.

The big joke on us is, we have to see what we're paying for/wasting millions of dollars for (take your pick) by looking at photos taken from the el posted on a blog in Rogers Park. Shiller should be all over this, and she hasn't even made a "construction has begun" announcement.

(After all the promises that construction WILL begin shortly, in 2002, 2005, 2007, etc., it's rather shocking she hasn't, to be honest.)

Yeah, Tom Mannis is very conservative. But this isn't about his politics, it's about his photos. I realize that these days, pictures CAN lie. If you want to think Tom PhotoShopped these, that's cool. I'm thinking they're probably legit, and uninfluenced by Tom's feelings about the next Presidential race.

    YMMV, of course.

  3. This parody of Mannis's blogsite is mildly funny, but more interesting is the fact that someone took the trouble to provide another perspective on this RP gadfly and his reckless and deceptive digital photojonesery.

  4. Thats not parody, thats raving vitriol. I think you need to go back and learn what parody is, think, The Onion not Sean Hannity.

  5. billyjoe: Have a blog yet?

I really didn't know that photographs were drafted into political parties. I'd like to read more of your opinions on this.

  6. Actually, looking at the Stench, its highly obssesive rant and downright scary.

  7. The Bench and Stench blogs both suck, but because the latter was created to make fun of the former, it has a tad more credibility, in my opinion.

By extension, The Onion is more credible than the Sun Times. While more fun to read, its certainly lacks credibility(which is of course, by design)

  9. There doesn't seem to be much progress at all - if you're so opinionated that you refuse to see it. But look closely at the July 4 photos and my pix from this week and you can easily see that the foundation has been dug down at least 6 to 8 feet. That's a lot for 5.7 acres. We've waited too long for this, but let's admit what's right before our eyes: The work has begun and is finally well under way.

  10. There has been quite a bit of activity at WY, actually. They have crushed and removed almost all of the old cement chunks and are well on their way to completely digging out the area for the 600 parking spot underground garage. I cannot say where all of that nasty, heavily contaminated soil is going, but I doubt it is being disposed of properly.

There also appears to be a large hole that has been dug on the south end of the garage area. It looks like a hole for a caisson, but it does not make sense to only have one. Any ideas? Drainage for the garage, perhaps?
