Shots Fired Last Night At Dover And Leland

It was a busy night last night. Our friends at the "Uptown Crime Blotter" were busy keeping up with the activity in the neighborhood. Several residents also emailed us to give us updates on the shootings near Leland and Dover.

A reader writes in:

"Eight shots fired last night at Dover and Leland. A white Bonneville 4 door car driving towards a blue 4 door sedan coming the other way - blue car containing 4 African American males. Shots fired from both cars. The blue car sped south down Dover with bullet holes throughout and turned east on Wilson. The other white car, also shooting, was a larger car that headed west towards Clark. Three of the 4 people in the blue car were hit and treated at Weiss. They drove themselves to Weiss and were followed by a police car who saw them at a high rate of speed down Wilson."

Another reader added:

"They are still searching for the weapon which should be on the 4600 block of Dover! Please check around your cars and in your yards - we certainly do not need another loose gun on the streets!"

  1. I noticed in this post they mention a White Bonneville being involved. I don't see that mentioned on the Crime Blotter. They said it was a blue and a black car involved. If the white Bonneville is a more correct update, could it be the same car involved in the Saturday update below on the crime blotter about a guy with a gun threatening people?

  2. Its my understanding that the White Bonneville was heading west on Leland, the blue sedan going east on Leland. They both approached the intersection slowly and up on reaching the intersection shots came from both cars. No offical words on who may have gotten hit in the white car, but three of the 4 males in the blue are confirmed shot and treated at Weiss.
The White Bonneville headed west towards Clark, possilbly turning left in the alley prior to reaching Carols Pub. The took Wilson straight to the hospital.

  3. Anyone know about the brawl in the park on Friday night? Was that related? Also, Roger's Park seems to be having a bad spell (much worse than us it seems.) Since that man who was shot at the gas pump lived on Kenmore, I wonder if there is any relationship between the violence in the two areas?

  4. Activity like this tends to happen a little further east (in the Malden & Magnolia area), so this comes as a surprise. Sad, too, as there are lots of people with their dogs and families with kids heading to Chase Park around that block.

  5. Why is it that the closer you get to public housing the more shootings and drugs there are?

  6. I heard that there is a merger of 2 gangs right now and there is some infighting with who is going to be in charge and that is why there is stepped up violence. My neighbors were walking home with their child when this took place and had to go to the hospital with the detectives to ID the people. It was horrible.

  7. There is a serious police presence tonight on Dover. When my husband and I returned home for the grocery store there were 6 or 7 police on the corner of Dover and Leland. By the time I got everything upstairs and walked down there, they were in the middle of a meeting - approximately 15 officers both plain clothes and uniformed being briefed by two "white shirt" officers. I didn't get a chance to talk to them given the meeting.

  8. Yeah, they were out doing outdoor roll call. Certainly an appropriate area given the circumstances...

  9. I just witnessed this as well. Looks like they are conducting seat belt checks. There are officers on all four sides.

  10. The next rally can't come fast enough. By the time we cover all the gang hotspots marching in Uptown we should be able to qualify for a marathon and get sponsor funding.

  11. Does anyone else here think that these public roll calls are a complete waste of time and more a public relations tool than real law enforcement technique?

I think rallies are stupid too. Going to a onetime rally is easy. Forming a neighborhood watch or committing to some other longer term positive effort is hard.

  12. There was a shooting also at Malden and Leland on Friday night around 8:00 p.m. There were about 20 cops out there. I was surprised this was not posted.

  13. More shots fired tonight at around 8:50pm. I live on Clark, between Lawrence and Leland and could clearly hear someone unloading several rounds closeby.

  14. This is horrible. I saw the police gathered last night. Now I know why.

  15. And the response from the alderman to the violence, injuries and death that have been plaguing her ward for several months now?
