'Kahawa House' Coffee Shop Coming On Montrose

A reader writes in:
"Signs appeared last week in the window of the commercial space at 838 W. Montrose foretelling the arrival of Kahawa House, a coffee shop. It ends the protracted vacancy created when the storefront’s former tenant, the Urban Tea Lounge, was shuttered about one year ago. The signs also indicate that the coffee house will offer Wi-Fi and a mail drop service. There’s no word yet about when Kahawa House will open."

  1. What is a maildrop service? Is it as simple as them having a box to drop letters in that they take to the post office or have picked up by a mailman?

Regardless, I could easily see myself stopping by to get a coffee before I go to the Jewel across the street. Hopefully it will get some more positive foot traffic along that stretch and help that part of Montrose with the blight!

  2. I think a mail drop service is for people to pick up their mail. Make of that what you will.

  3. Glad to see something moving in. It's been vacant since I moved here.

I hope it turns out to be a nice place to spend some time, because it's right across the street from my place, so it would definitely be a convenient hangout...

  7. If you can get up to The Fix on Irving Park, I think it's worth the trip...nice place, good service, great coffee.

  9. We're insane for Metropolis in Roger's Park but Dollop serves their coffee so that is what we prefer when we are in the 'hood.
