Uptown Update likes to spotlight locally owned businesses in our area. Today's is From The Center Pilates Studio, located at 4721 North Clark, across from Chase Park in the Chase Park Commons building.
From The Center opened 2 years ago this past June and owner/director Patrick O'Brien has been teaching Pilates longer than any other person in Chicago. This is his company's second location. For more information, go to www.fromthecenterpilates.com or call 773-334-1199.
My upstairs neighbors takes sessions here.
ReplyDeleteShe swears by it. Says its a top notch facility.
...... countdown to Schiller troll somehow identifying this as rascist or elitest ... 1, 2, 3 ..
While slightly off-topic, I'd like to give my props to the aforementioned Chase Park. I finally stopped by this weekend for some tennis, and the courts there are top-notch and basically brand-spanking new. And how dumb am I? I didn't even know they had a sweet pool there as well, along with a garden tended by the locals and a nice running track.
ReplyDeleteChase Park is amazing!! They also have great programs for toddlers all the way thru adults. I took my 20 month old to their mom and tot interaction and it was awesome!! If you know anyone that has young kids...please tell them about the wonderful programs at Chase for toddlers. our teacher told us that the long term plan for Chase is to tear down the strip mall and gas station and build a new community center, dog walk and rebuild the park! Their goal is to be the next Wells Park! Yay Chase Park!
ReplyDeleteI spent my youth from 1963 thru 1973 at Chase. It was full of activites back then for Our Lady of Lourdes kids. My 1972 OLL class just had our 35th reunion where we visited the old school and Church last year. I am glad to see that Chase is still a beacon so to speak in that hood.
ReplyDeleteHey, tigcap do you live around here? Over the course of this blog's life it seems that a few people who grew up here but live in other parts visit this site. If you don't mind saying, are you someone who moved on or someone who grew up here and still lives here? I am trying to get a general sense of who stayed long term and who moved away (in a general sense). It's just interesting to me. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSaskia,
ReplyDeleteNo, I no longer live in Chicago. I grew up in the building that they just recently tore down on the corner of Lawrence and Clark. That is how I found your website. My family lived there from 1960 thru 1969. Moved to Paulina and Lawrence and then out to the burbs for high school.Uptown was getting progressively bad and went thru an extremely bad period in the 70s and 80s. I still have childhood friends whose families never left and are still there. Whenever we go back, I always pay my respects to the OLL church I grew up in. A buddy of mine played Basketball this past Fathers day at Chase Park. His parents have lived on Leland and Paulina since 1962.It brought a lot of memories back for him.
Well, I hope you come back to this blog. I think it is interesting to get perspectives from people who have either been in Uptown a long time or who lived here pre-1990 (in addition to people who have moved here more recently). Cheers!
