Positive Loitering At Wilson And Sheridan May 27th

CAPS will be having a positive loitering event and police roll call on Tuesday, May 27th, at 6:30pm, at the corner of Wilson and Sheridan. Come talk to the police and your neighbors, as residents make their presence known on Uptown's streets. Bring the kids, bring your dog, stay for an hour or stay for five minutes.

If you haven't been to a positive loitering event, it's fun to stand around and shmooze for a bit with friends and neighbors. Seeing the police do their roll call is pretty impressive. And a bunch of residents and cops standing around pretty much puts the kibosh on illegal activities being conducted that evening.

Uptown Baptist Church has worked with the police in helping to organize the event. Bravo to them for their continuing community activity and for looking outside their church doors as they help the neighborhood move toward positive changes.

  2. Enough of this! If we want things to KEEP changing around here we've got to make our presence known. 90%+ of us Uptownies just want somewhere safe and decent to live. This small number of miscreants MUST get UP and OUT of UPTOWN!

    QUIT BLAMING SCHILLER!!-IT'S NO USE

    ATTEND YOUR CAPS MEETINGS!!

SHOW YOUR FACE AT WILSON & SHERIDAN NEXT WEEK!!

Take back your streets for all of our sakes!...

  3. I just got in. Walking east from Marine on Montrose. Knew something was up when the 7th police car went flying by.

Saw all the police cars and fire trucks on Broadway up by the Wilson El station.

What really concerns me is that Truman and Aldi's parking lot is THE MAJOR GANG ESCAPE ROUTE for the Vice Lords and Black P Stone Rangers.

What happens when Truman builds this tall parking structure that gives gang members even more coverage when they're trying to escape the police after one of their shooting sprees?

  4. I'm sorry, but it's going to take more than positive loitering to stop the gang violence that's out of control in Uptown.

  5. Craig, we really appreciate your keeping us informed.

I moved your posts from the scanner into their own topic, so comments and any further updates can go there.

Maybe in addition to the event on the 27th it is time for some "positive loitering" in front of Da Mare's office at City Hall.

  8. After last night's shootings can we come armed? Will the police provide Kevlar vests?

  9. Anon 2:13 - I know you're probably joking about coming armed, but in all seriousness, I'm worried about violence during this event.

  10. Do we have to bring our own suitcases to sleep on in the bus shelter or will they be provided for us? I'm there! Positive loitering event on Wilson and Broadway too, please.

  11. Why don't people take this occasion to march to Shiller's office as was suggested many times in the other comments.
