May 28, 2008, Beat 2032 Meeting for tomorrow
Dear 47th Ward Resident,
This is a reminder about the CAPS (Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy) Meeting for Thursday, May 29th for Beat 2032. Beat 2032 is bordered by Foster to Lawrence and Leavitt to Clark. The meetings are held the last Thursdays of odd months. They are always held at Ravenswood Evangelical Church at 4900 North Damen Avenue. The meetings begin at 7pm.
Sincerely,
Gene Schulter
Alderman, 47th Ward
Wow, this is bizarro land, not sure what to think - sounds like a joke - 46th ward hasn't been updated with anything but the cubs game information - all the important issues being addressed.
ReplyDeleteMary Ann Smith is also holding ward service days on the streets of Uptown this spring/summer. I misplaced the dates. Does anyone have them handy?
ReplyDeleteI live in the 47th ward - right on the border at Clark and Leland and I have to say that Schulter is pretty much a rock star. I get 4-6 emails from his office each month alerting me to street closures, festivals, fundraisers etc. Yesterday I got a really nice 3 panel brochure in the mail listing the summer events for the ward. His office has it together!
ReplyDeletethanks for rubbing it in 47th warder!!! :)
ReplyDeleteGene is a good alderman (at least it appears so on the surface). I used to live in his ward and it was so easy to get a tree planted or get follow up on any city service request.
ReplyDeleteShiller, who prides herself on getting things done (ha), seems to ignore anything you request from her office - at least in my experience. My neighbors and I have called several times over the last 2 weeks to get a storm drain cleaned - and it still hasn't been cleaned, which results in constant flooding when it rains (been going on for months). Guess we will have another lake in our street tonight/tomorrow when it pours. Maybe we get ignored because we live in a condo building? Thanks Helen!
I e-mailed Schiller's office regarding the issue of a need for a fence to surround the parking lot at Dearborn Wholesale Foods on Montrose. No response. E-mailed again 20 days later, asking for a response and rec'd a phone call...I was told that the fence surrounding the parking lot - according to city code - would only be ornamental - it would not be required to have a locking gate and while it would surround the lot, it would still leave the lot accessible for loiterers. Activity there is sporatic, but this weekend, I saw some folks lying about, drinking and yelling at passers by...it doesn't look like anything will change, but the alderman's office said they will report this to the police and ask for more regular patrols to keep an eye on it. Beyond that, thy said there is not much they can do and encouraged me to call the police when I see something or contact the police community number. We moved here from Schulter's ward and I can confirm that it is truly a "distant, far off ward" - it was like living in a different city when comparing reponse times, vacant storefronts, condition of streets, criminal activity...
ReplyDeleteFunny, I was walking to Jewel the other day and I saw at least 6 loiterering in the dearborn parking lot in two different locations and, get this a police car parked in the middle of hte lot. The cop and the loiterers were still there when I walked home 20 minutes later. It looked to me like the cop didn't say a word to the loiterers, who had a few cans of ice house scattered around them. I wanted to knock on the cops window and say WTF? say something. But I had too many groceries in my hand...
ReplyDeleteEdgewater Crime Blotter noted a "loitering dispersal" in the 48th ward a few nights ago. Has anyone heard of a "loitering dispersal" in the 46th? Sometimes you hear of a suspected gang dispersal but never for simple loitering in the 48th ward. Or, am I wrong?
