The six story condominium plus retail space development planned for the corner of Clark and Lawrence is all but a dream now...at least from the old developer. The lot is now for sale again. Interested parties can contact Doug Van Vleet at the number below.
So he destroyed that nice old turreted 3 flat for no good reason, probably upzoned it and then is selling the land at a profit????? What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call it nice. Old yes.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see a cafe or bar on that corner.
ReplyDeleteIt's the same old trick: see Block 37, old Merc building, etc.
ReplyDeleteIn this real estate market, I wouldn't be sure the guy who's selling the land is making a profit. Possible, but far from a sure thing. His financing may have fallen through, for all we know. Bad climate for new construction.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a 2 or 3 level Target!!!
ReplyDeleteMy old stomping grounds from 1963 thru 1969. That building was a shithole then and continued to be throughout the later half of the 20th century. But the good times included going to Corts diner across the street(now a Mexican dump)for Root beer floats or Jacks on Clark for cheesburgers. Of course Rainbo Ice skating on Friday nights past all the pot smoking hippies at the "Playground" Oh those were different times....
ReplyDeleteBring back a good old fashioned Irish bar(als Snannons o Lawrence and Paulina back in the day). It would do well with the yuppies moving into Rainbo village.I believe Villa May pizza now on Lawrence has the same idea.
