Maybe they will close for good and Caribou Coffee or Argo Tea will open up there. I can dream, can't I?
ReplyDeleteThat is scary because a restaurant has to be really nasty to fail an inspection.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Charlie Trotter will open an Uptown location or Alinea will decide to expand... Whatever happens remember to eat (not smoke..) your spinach and look out for vermin!
ReplyDeleteThank G-d. They're saving a bunch of people from the hershey squirts tonight!
ReplyDeleteThe outside's always been enough to keep me from setting foot on the inside. Seems my instincts haven't failed me.
ReplyDeleteLesson #1: If there are vacant stores next to you, you have rats. Now add the fact that you serve food into the equasion and, Um.......DUH!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, vacant spaces in the city = Rats/Mice.
I am pretty amazed that this is a surprise at all.
Nasty! Mabybe now there is a way to get them out and get back the beautiful building hidden beneath it?
ReplyDeleteAnd it was so nice of CTA to recently execute a renewable lease to these folks. It's not like this food vendor hasn't been a hell hole establishment for 5-10 years.
ReplyDeleteOver the years CTA has exercised very poor due diligence in it's tenant selection and management of the CTA leases related to the Wilson El vendor spaces. That is one of the major causes leading to the security and general gross atmosphere problems at the Wilson El. Shame on them.
I'm surprised there isn't riots in Uptown right now.
ReplyDeleteNow is the perfect time for Chipotle to make my dreams come true and set up shop here.
ReplyDeleteOnly took eight years.
DeleteRight now is a perfect time for CTA to make by dreams come true and remove this vendor spot to restore the orignal and glorious Wilson El lobby space.
ReplyDeleteNow is the perfect time for Chipotle to make my dreams come true and set up shop here.
ReplyDeleteMy waist line hates your dreams...

Thanks PB - very informative - and might I add gross and disturbing. I hope I speak for us all when I say thanks for keeping us informed and letting us know the details.
ReplyDeleteLove that chicken from Popeyes!
ReplyDeleteI realize that every restaurant in Chicago comes up with one or two minor infractions each inspection.
ReplyDeleteFrom the Popeye's report, it looks like they didn't bother to correct the "serious" infractions from previous inspections and that caused a "critical" infraction and that's why they got shuttered? Can anyone smarter than me confirm?
I am surprised that the Popeyes franchise would let that location exist. Its so disgusting that it has ruined my perception of all Popeyes franchises. And to have that many violations? I wonder if the owner of this location owns others around the city?
ReplyDeleteAs another poster said. No Surprise. They should just level the entire structure.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it goes the same way as the KFC on Broadway and Buena?
ReplyDeleteCan anyone say thank God we have El Pollo Loco. That place is always packed and the food is good.
EEEWww as yummy as the fried chicken smells sometimes when i get off the el, i now flat out refuse to go in there. Once I thought i would give it a chance also i didn't want to lose my parking spot(or burn those fried chix calories off by walking over to Irving and Ashland) and actually stopped in to see if they had po'boys. i got so creeped out not even b/c of the dingy poorly-lit atmosphere but the creeps behind the counter coming up to the front counter to get a look at me. It was DISGUSTING. can people be arrested for unsolicited looks? Ugh. made me want to go home and shower. I was even completely covered wearing a winter coat for pete's sake! They must be so deprived of normal looking customers. i was thankful they said they didn't have the sandwich b/c i would have been too afraid to actually get it and ran out.
