North Of Lakeview, South Of Edgewater

The Chicago Free Press, the weekly gay newspaper, still doesn't recognize that Uptown exists. In the January 9th issue, the area around Broadway and Lawrence was named the "Hottest Area" in their 2007 Golden Spoon Awards, the the word Uptown was nowhere to be found in the article.

"Hottest Area - Who would have thought that the corner of Broadway and Lawrence would be such a hotbed of culinary activity? The hookers and junkies have made way for a number of new cafes. Demera, Ethiopian, 4801 N. Broadway, (773) 334-8787, is still working out the kinks. Meanwhile, Fat Cat, 4840 N. Broadway, (773) 506-3100, and Marigold, 4836 N. Broadway, (773) 293-4653, add comfort food and upscale Indian dining to the mix, respectively. Crew, 4804 N. Broadway, (773) 784-2739, pulls in a good lunch crowd for its great pub fare while neighboring Fiesta Mexicana, 4806 N Broadway, (773) 769-4244, has a strong following for its no-frills south of the border menu."

And here is the email address for the Editor of the Chicago Free Press so you can let him know that Uptown really does exist: news@chicagofreepress.com.

  3. I don't get it. The gay press makes condescending comments about hookers and drug dealers in Uptown, and when GLBT residents who live here try to change it with new leadership, they are accused of being yuppies. What gives?

  4. the gay media loves to play the victim game - so when anyone doesn't play the victim game its obvious that they don't have a gay sensibility...the gay media is many ways is worse than other media on gay matters because the majority of only see one way and god forbid you don't follow the predicted way ... the paper makes great litter box bottoms

  6. LOL. That's like saying the 'Wrigley Field Heckler' is more acurate than the Chicago Free Press.

Please, give them more credit than that. According to their very own 'Pressie Poll - they're ranked the best in the city for glbt news.

  7. The Chicago Free Press isn't even a real newspaper. Nothing "news worthy" ever gets printed in that rag. I can't believe they are still in print.
